Dexter, Missouri - Each year the Dexter Bearcat Booster Club honors two individuals with a $500 scholarship presented at the end of the school year to a graduating senior. The 2016 recipients are Tyler Stevenson and Julia Hahn.
Tyler Stevenson is the son of Kay Polsgrove Stevenson and Keith Stevenson.
He has been a member of the Dexter Bearcats Football team all four years of his high school career. He has also played tennis all four years.
Tyler is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, DECA, Rotary Interact, Top 10% and Dexter Honor Society.
He was a 2nd team All-Conference football team selection in 2014 and ESPN SEMO Gatorade Player of the Week in 2015. He was also a member of the 2014 Academic All-State Football Team. Tyler also received the prestigious Charles Bland Award in football.
His future plans are to attend Harding University and major in Engineering.
Julia Hahn is the daughter of Brad and Melissa Hahn.
She played volleyball all four years of her high school career and has been on the track and field team all four years. She is headed to the MSHSAA State Champion in Track and Field this year and hopes to medal.
Julia is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Business Leaders of America, Dexter Honor Society, Student Council, Drama, Speech & Debate team, Foreign Language Club, Rotary Interact, AHEC, and Top 10% of her class. She also had the distinct honors of graduating Valedictorian Class of 2016.
She was also a member of the Academic All-State Volleyball Team, received the 2014 Setting Award and the 2014 SCAA All-Tournament team, and the 2014 2nd Team SCAA All-Conference Volleyball Team.
Her plans are to attend the University of Alabama and major in Chemical and Biological Engineering with an emphasis in Pre-Medicine.
The Booster Club has purchased many items over the past two years including tent for the track & field team, wrestling mats, flags for the cheerleaders, the letter D for the athletes for their jackets, and a bassoon for the band. They have helped support Project Prom and the Goodwill Games and award two scholarships each year. They also paint the football field each year prior to the season opener.
