Dexter, Missouri - The glory days of America's wild frontier are long gone, but you can take a step back in time and relive a little history in Dexter on April 1st, 2nd and 3rd at East Park located on Hwy 114.
Pioneers in the Park will feature a Living History Encampment taking you back to the 1800's where the smell of kettle corn will tickle your senses. Old Buckskinners will talk of tall tales and entertain you with their old fashioned music. A blacksmith will be on hand to demonstrate and create antique iron pieces.
There is something for everyone to see and do when you attend a Living History event such as this one. Indulge your senses with the aroma and taste of old fashioned rootbeer, lemonade, homemade candy, ham & beans, chicken & dumplins, and kettle corn. Children and adults can try their hand at shooting a bow, throwing a hawk or an atlatl.
Stop by and see the educational tent and see live turtles, lots of skulls and pelts. Kids receive a free prize if they stop by!!
At noon and 3 p.m. the infamous Candy Cannon filled to the top will delight the children. It's fun to watch as the kids yell, "Fire in the hole!" before lighting the fuse! You can hear the "boom" and watch the children scramble for candy.
There will be a gun raffle and a 50/50 raffle to raise money to Keep Living History Alive.
The event begins Friday, April 1st with the modern crafts and a pageant on Saturday. Come out Saturday night, bring your S'mores and enjoy music around the campfire.
Proceeds go to help support the Dexter Parks & Recreation to purchase equipment for their sports program.
