Dexter, Missouri - Each year the Dexter Fire Department employees vote on a Fireman of the Year. The 2015 recipient for Fireman of the Year is Jeff Hueckel.
Allan Horton, a veteran firefighter, presented the award to Hueckel at their annual Christmas party.
"Due to his dedication and hard work his fellow fireman felt he deserved this award," commented Don Seymore, Dexter Fire Chief. "He has put in a lot of work and effort and a huge amount of hours during his time off for training and classes. He is a very dedicated individual.
Jeff is married to Megan Hueckel have been happily married for 7 years. They have two wonderful children, Hunter age 8 and Sydney age 4.
He and his wife live in Dexter, her home town, and Jeff who is originally from the Essex area worked for the Essex Fire Department and continues to farm that part of the county. He has been a fireman for more than 11 years; six years with Essex and almost five years with Dexter. He will celebrate his 5th year at the Dexter Fire Department in April of 2016.

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Fire Department recognized new firemen at their annual Christmas Party. Designated as "newbies" these firefighters have gone through extensive training and most had experience as a firemen prior to coming to Dexter.
Tyler Whitson, FD2, was hired September 8, 2015 from Bloomfield.
Dylan Poore, FD 6, was hired September 8, 2015.
Kirk Frizzell, FD 13, out of Kansas was hired June 2, 2015.
Chad Tilley, FD 26, from Essex was hired September 8, 2015.
Joshua Craft, FD 29, was hired September 8, 2015.
Each firefighter has gone through rigorous training throughout the year and are well prepared to handle most any situation.

Dexter, Missouri - The Dexter Fire Department rang in the New Year in hopes of educating the public in fire safety and making sure everyone keeps a home smoke detector with fresh batteries. Did you know that the dexter Fire Department responded to 231 calls in 2015?
Their goal in 2015 was to increase public relations. They participated in many events including Pink-Up for Cancer, PAT Big Truck Night, Dexter Homecoming Tailgate event, and even handed out candy to little trick-or-treaters on Halloween. They will continue this goal for the 2016 year with more exciting events planned as well as increase safety awareness.
"The goal for 2016 is to continue to strive to be the best fire department we can be," commented Fire Chief Don Seymore. "And to increase training in life safety and to protect properties of the surrounding area."
The Dexter Fire Department responded to 17 Structure Fires, 10 Passenger Vehicle Fire, 13 Unauthorized Burnings, and numerous other categories including, but not limited to Cooking Fire, Trash Fire, Brush Fire, Gas Leak, Electrical Wiring, Carbon Monoxide Incident, EMS, Power Line Down, Water or Steam Leak, False Alarm, Malfunction to Alarm Systems, and Flood Assessment, even a dog rescue, and numerous other categories.
The average time the Dexter Fire Department is on a scene over the 231 calls is 46 minutes and 15 seconds. Their average response time from dispatch to arrival is 7:00 minutes for a fire call and 10:00 minutes for an EMS response throughout the county. Dexter Fire Department responds to city and county calls and are "lumped" together when getting the average call time.
The Dexter Fire Department also prides itself on being ready for any task at hand and the men spend numerous hours in training throughout the year. In 2015, the fire department employees racked up an impressive 2,124 hours of training. They gained three firefighters in Level 3 Haz-Mat and firefighters in Haz-Mat Operations Level 5 in Firefighter 1 and 2.
The firefighters spent numerous hours in Vehicle Rescue Technician Class, Large Vehicle Rescue, Pipe Line Emergency Response, Haz-Mat Technician Refresher Course, Haz-Mat Awareness, Haz-Mat Operations, Hwy Safety, Grain Engulfment Rescue, Handling of LP Gas, Basic Pump Operations, Firefighter 1 Training and Firefighter 2 Training. They increased the number of hours from 2014 to 2015 by more than 1,000 hours of training. Pretty impressive numbers for a small town in southeast Missouri.
We are fortunate in Dexter to have such a dedicated crew of firefighters. As many residents have seen or experiences the bright flashing lights traveling down streets of our small town. Dexter, Missouri - Fifth grade students in Ms. Shelby Lintz's classroom at Central Elementary in Dexter, Missouri received a surprise at their Christmas party prior to the Christmas break. The ShowMe Times awarded them with spectacular cupcakes for having the most spirited door decorations for the holidays.
The students were excited and of course posed for a photo! "I like Ms Lintz. She is the best teacher," exclaimed one of her students. "She is not mean," commented another student. "She makes us work hard, but gives us rewards for getting our work done," stated another student.
Well Ms. Lintz is loved at Central Elementary by her students. It's her first year teaching at Dexter and she is loving her new job. Congratulations for submitting your photo to the ShowMe Times and we shall see who wins next year!
