Puxico VFW Continues A BBQ Tradition

Military Heros Serve Up BBQ for Area Resident

Puxico, Missouri - The Puxico VFW had an early morning wake up call on Saturday to get the fires rolling on their BBQ pits.  Members and volunteers joined together working at their Post's annual fundraiser of cooking and selling BBQ loins and Boston butts for area friends and family.

Chief BBQ Master, Dallas Buchanan, was first to show up pulling a tandem of BBQ pits behind his pickup.  Buchanan is quick to pull up and happily noted that this was a "2 glove event" prior to getting the fires stoked.

Most of the BBQ was pre-sold by members for a mid-day pickup at the VFW Post.  The group sold over 25 BBQ loins and 38 BBQ Boston Butts for the day.   Also - Briskets and other delicious goodies.  General Junk Cooking said, "They sold everything they cooked.  If we had more we could have sold it, but didn't want left overs."

"Sometimes it's not just about cooking the BBQ," noted Buchanan.  "We really have a great time getting together and swapping stories with one another.  And sometimes those stories get long and stretched out a bit."

Senator Doug Libla was also on hand to visit and thanked the veteran members of the post for their service.  Aside from a little teasing from Chief Cook Buchanan, the Senator was anxious to purchase his BBQ for his family.

Members of the post participating in the Easter BBQ cooking were Eddie Sifford, Doug Siler, Charlie Hendrix, Rudy Williams, Dallas Buchanan, Gary Zoll and Dan Fischer.

The Post profited around $600 to $700 in support of local veterans and veteran programs.  This annual fundraiser has always been successful and they plan to have it again next year.

The VFW members are no strangers to the BBQ smoke as they are one of the main attractions at the annual Puxico Homecoming with their infamous "Goat Burgers" and who doesn't love a good ole goat burger!!  They seem to run out every year!!

"We even added a little of our goat meat to the cooking agenda yesterday," added Dallas Buchanan.  "We love our goat burgers!"

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and purchased the meat.  The proceeds go to a great cause and they happily enjoy cooking for the cause!
