Bloomfield, Missouri – Bloomfield High School held their annual Homecoming Ceremony in the gym Friday evening. Along with Homecoming candidates student athletes were introduced.
Miss Sophie Thorn was announced as the 2015 Homecoming Queen!
Freshman class candidate is Miss Makayla Hutchison. She is the daughter of Jeff Hutchison and the late Ladonna Hutchison. Makayla is in BETA, FBLA, and Choir. Her hobbies include playing tennis, hanging out with friends, and signing. Her plan after graduation is to attend a four-year university.
Matt Gibbs escorted Miss Hutchison. He is the son of Todd and Jill Gibbs. Matt is a member of Future Farmers of America, Bloomfield Student Council, and an athlete on the basketball and baseball teams. His hobbies include racing, playing basketball, and baseball. After graduation he plans to attend college.
Sophomore class candidate is Miss Adalina Gensler. She is the daughter of Woody and Dana Gensler. Adalina is a member of the Pep Club, FBLA, Choir, FCCLA, Speech, and BETA. Her hobbies include playing piano, violin, and singing. Her plans after graduation are to attend Southeast Missouri State University and earn a degree in Psychiatry.
Alex Gibbs escorted Miss Gensler. He is the son of Todd and Jill Gibbs. Alex is an active member of FBLA, BETA Club and is on the basketball and baseball teams. His hobbies include playing basketball, baseball, and hanging out with friends. His plans after graduation are to attend college.
Junior class candidate is Miss Elizabeth Meyer. She is the daughter of Robert and Laura Meyer. Elizabeth is a member of the volleyball team, BETA Club, and FCCLA. Her hobbies include kickboxing, martial arts, playing volleyball, running, weightlifting, and reading. Her plans after graduation are to attend Southeast Missouri State University and enlist in the National Guard. She hopes to major in Forensics and Criminology and become a crime scene investigator.
Bailey Vaughn escorted Miss Meyer. He is the son of Richard and Heather Vaughn. Bailey is a member of FBLA, BETA Club, Bloomfield Student Council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Choice, and the Golf team. He enjoys playing golf, piano, and basketball. His plans are to attend the University of Missouri – Columbia and become a radiologist.
Senior Class candidate and the 2015 Bloomfield Homecoming Queen is Miss Sophie Thorn. She is the daughter of Tony and Lara Thorn. Sophie is a member of the BETA Club, Choir, Cheerleading, FBLA, and the Pep Club. Her hobbies include working at the Powder Room & Boutique in Dexter, styling people’s hair and make-up, babysitting, and she loves art. After graduation she plans to attend the Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School in Springfield, Missouri.
Miss Thorn was escorted by Ricky Brotherton. He is the son of Michael and Angie Cobb. Ricky is a member of the Bloomfield Student Council, FBLA, FCCLA, Choir, and is the Pep Club President. His hobbies include grooming his dog Dasher, hanging out with friends, and fishing. His plans after graduation are to attend college and major in business.
The retiring Homecoming Queen was Miss Katrina Duncan. She is the daughter of Terry Duncan and Joyce Duncan. In high school, she participated in cheerleading, choir, BETA Club, FBLA, and Bloomfield Student Council. Her hobbies include singing. She is currently attending college and working towards a degree in nursing.
Josh Clary escorted the 2014 retiring Homecoming Queen Miss Duncan. He is the son of Charles Clary and Mandy Clary. Jacob is currently attending college and working towards a degree in nursing. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, and long walks on the beach. His future plans are finish his degree and become a nurse practitioner.

Dexter, Missouri - The Board of Education of the Dexter R-XI School District has voted to employ Mitchell D. Wood as the Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2015.
Mitchell has been serving as Superintendent of the Oran R-3 District since 2004. Prior to becoming Superintendent at Oran, he was a Teacher, Coach, and Activities Director from 1992-1999 and served as Jr. High/High School Principal in the same district from 1999-2004 for a total of 23 years in the Oran District. Prior to going to Oran he was a teacher and coach at Hayti from 1989-1992.
Mr. Wood earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Arkansas State University, a Masters Degree in Educational Administration and Specialist in Educational Leadership from Southeast Missouri State University and is currently working toward a Doctorate from William Woods University with an anticipated completion date in 2015.
During his tenure as superintendent at Oran, Mr. Wood has directed their strategic planning team and planned and directed passage of a bond issue (more than 75% approval rate) that resulted in new Elementary and Jr. High buildings and a cafeteria and multi-purpose facility. He also coordinated and directed the Comprehensive School Improvement Committee. The district has consistently achieved outstanding Annual Performance Reports under his leadership.
Mr. Wood’s other professional activities include his membership in the SEMO Superintendents Association, Missouri Association of School Administrators (Chairman, Small Schools Committee 2013-current), Scott-Miss Superintendents Association ( President 2006-2008), and Missouri Association of School Business Officials. In addition he served on the Board of Appeals for the Missouri State High School Activities Association from 2009-2014 and the Coaches Advisory Panel from 2006-2009. Before retiring from his very successful coaching career,
Mr. Wood’s teams won numerous conference, district, and sectional championships in both basketball and baseball as well as the baseball state championship in 2013. He also was selected as MHSBCA Coach of the year in baseball in 1998 and 2013 and inducted into the MHSBCA Hall of Fame Class of 2010.
Mr. Wood has been married to his wife Shawn for 30 years and they have two children. Their son, Dr. Ryne Wood, is an optometrist in Cape Girardeau and their daughter, Mandi Wood, will graduate in December 2015 from Logan College of Chiropractic.
Cape Girardeau, Missouri – The Dexter High School Drama, Speech, and Debate Team performed extremely well t the Cape Central Tournament Thursday evening.
Macy Cecil and Adam Webb earned 2nd place in Public Forum Debate.
Morgan Ross placed 2nd in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
Haley Cornett took 2nd place in Dramatic Interpretation and 3rd place in Prose.
