Dexter, Missouri – The JV Bearcats have much improved throughout the season increasing their season in the win category by defeating the Woodland JV Cardinals 69 – 48.
Gabe Jackson tallied a game-high 14 points for Dexter scoring all but two in the first half.
Ryan Mayo hit double digits finishing with 10 points.
Kole Kelley excited the crowd hitting three treys in the first half! Ben Sindle and Bo McMullin each added a 3-pointer.
The JV Bearcats scored double digits in each of the four quarters and led by 23 points at the start of the fourth quarter.

Dexter, Missouri – The DHS Boys Basketball team under the direction of Josh Dowdy were unable to keep up with the fast paced Woodland Cardinals and dropped their homecoming game 74-54 at the Bearcat Event Center Friday evening.
“Our kids deserved a lot of credit,” commented Woodland’s coach Logan Nutt. “We know what we are looking for every day whether it is practice or a game. We just want to keep improving and reach our peak in late February and early march. We gave 100% effort and 100% attitude tonight and improved defensively.”
Garret Reynolds hit a game-high six 3-pointers for the Cardinals and finished with a game-high 31 points!
Zach Beel recorded 7 buckets and tallied 21 points.
“We know Beel is a monster,” Nutt continued. “He brings it every single day and he is mean. You better watch out. He also emphasizes sharing the ball and the more we share the ball the better shots we will be able to take and tonight we were on when we shot it.”
Jason Jarrell recorded a team-high 29 points for the Bearcats. Austin Chesser tallied 8 points. Peyton Pollock, Tyler Heil,and Ethan Flowers each recorded a trey.
Dexter (2-9) will host rival Bloomfield on Tuesday, January 13th. Game time 6:00 p.m.

Dexter, Missouri – The Lady ‘Cats were back on the court after a long Christmas break and rallied to victory over the Farmington Lady Knights 46-41.
“We really didn’t have a whole of energy tonight,” stated Dexter girls varsity coach Chad Allen. “It was a back and forth game and I am just proud our girls could grind out this game and get a win, especially since we just didn’t have that much energy.”
Dexter fell behind in the first half 22-27, but managed to gain enough energy to rally back with a 7-0 run to tie things up 40 all with a little over three minutes left in the game. Melanie McKuin hit one to put them on top 42-40. Krysten Garrison added another 2-pointer and with only 36 seconds left in the game Dakota Reynolds made a free throw to seal the win.
“I thought in that little spurt the girls really reached down and gave all the energy they had, and we made a huge 7-0 run.” Continued Allen. “We changed defenses there, was a little more active, got some steals and converted those into layups.”
Farmington’s powerhouse Ellania Davis led the Lady Knights with 20 points including one 3-pointer.
Melanie McKuin tallied 12 points for the Lady Cats. Garrison and Reynolds added nine points a piece. McKuin, Sydney Rogers, and Hannah Thurmon had one trey each.
“Coming into the game I knew they had some size and were physical and strong,” stated Allen. “I knew that aspect of the game might hurt us a little bit, but I thought the girls did a good job. We have got to work on blocking out a little better and being more aggressive going after loose balls. We have to just keep learning from our mistakes and getting better.”
Dexter (7-4) is slated to visit Kennett on Monday,
January 12th. Game time 6:00 p.m.
“We played them (Kennett) in the Twin Rivers Tournament and pulled away from them at the end,” Allen said. “They have a big girl inside in that Shetley girl who is tough and a great player. We will definitely have to get prepared for them and hopefully we can go down there and get a win Monday night.”

Perryville, Missouri – Dexter led by 10 points early on before the Pirates powerhouse Eli Tripp rallied for a game-high 21 points to lead Perryville to victory 65-50.
The first quarter looked like a completely different ballgame than the last quarter. Dexter tallied 20 points. Ethan Flowers returned to the line-up recording the first six points with a 3-pointer, a bucket and one from the charity stripe.
“We are obviously struggling in scoring,” commented head basketball coach Josh Dowdy. “We were up by 10 and had a chance to push it, but didn’t cash in. Perryville scored and brought it back to seven.”
“We have good kids who truly don’t know how to win. It’s tough to be patient, but I believe in them and we are getting what we deserve right now.”
Perryville shot the ball well especially from the outside tonight. Conner Stark netted 15 points including an impressive 4 treys. Eli Tripp was remarkable with his addition of 21 points and Luke Schlichting recorded a 3-pointer before fouling out.
“We struggled tonight around the rim finishing,” continued Dowdy. “We aren't the tallest team out there and we are primarily playing our sophomores and juniors and a couple of seniors. We also have Noah out this week.”
“We aren’t working hard enough in practice at least I think we can work harder and put more energy into the game as well. I know these kids want to win and I believe they will.”
Jacob Pedigo recorded a team-high 16 points including two 3-pointers. Jason Jarrell tallied 11 points along with Ethan Flowers who also added 11 including his two treys.

“I thought the JV played exceptionally well tonight,” stated Dowdy. “They have worked hard in practice. They put on an entertaining ballgame tonight. Those boys have put in a lot of effort, but still need to work on skill development. They will spend some much needed time this summer shooting the ball.”
Friday night is Winter Homecoming and the Bearcats take on the Woodland Cardinals. Game time is 5:00 p.m. beginning with a Freshman game, followed by the Junior Varsity and Varsity games.
The introduction of the Homecoming Queen and her court will also be announced with a Homecoming Dance to follow the games.
“Woodland is another SCAA conference game and we are going to have to be a lot better than what we played tonight to beat them.”
Bloomfield, Missouri – The #6 Dexter Bearcats earned another win defeating the #11 Portageville Bulldogs 62 – 47 in game #6 of the Bloomfield Christmas Tournament.
Portageville’s Kynan Mosby recorded a team-high 16 points including an impressive five 3-pointers. Derrick Priggel tallied 13 points including one trey. Greg Hopkins finished with 10 points for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs recorded zero fouls in the first half and were down by 20 points going into the locker room at the half.
Jason Jarrell recorded a game-high 21 points for the Bearcats. Austin Chesser tallied 15 points including one trey. Jacob Pedigo finished with 11 points including a trey. Peyton Pollock and Addison Moore each added one trey also.
