Dexter, Missouri – The Dexter Elks will host their annual wrestling sign-ups tonight at the Elks Lodge.
Each year they sponsor grades 1st – 6th boys and girls wrestling and any child in those grades in Stoddard County are encouraged to participate. This will be the 3rd season for Jason Twomey who will be available for sign-ups tonight at the Elks Lodge.
Payment is required at time of sign-up. The cost to participate is $15 per child. Parents may order shirts as well.In January duals will begin every Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Dexter High School. There will be four teams, green, red, blue, and gold and on February 7th there will be a final awards ceremony.
Sign-ups begin Thursday, November 6th at 6:00 p.m. If you are unable to attend tonight, there will be one last sign-up on Tuesday, November 11th at 6:00 p.m.
Practices will begin in November at the Dexter High School gym as well.
These youngsters wrestle with kids from other towns as well in their weight class. Some towns participating this year are Kennett, New Madrid County Central, Sikeston, and Notre Dame. The Dexter teams will travel to Kennett, New Madrid, and Sikeston this year.
Wrestlers will be educated in the basic skills necessary to succeed in the sport of wrestling through a safe and structured practice schedule.
Coaches will encourage the wrestlers to reach their highest potential through hard work on the mat and in school while keeping a positive attitude and having good sportsmanship.
