DHS Lady 'Cats Secure Victory to Compete in Title Game

Bloomfield, Missouri – The Dexter Lady ‘Cats defeated the Bloomfield Wildcats 25-17, 25-13 securing a repeat appearance in the championship game of the SCAA varsity volleyball tournament for the second straight year. The gym was full electrified with CAT spirit featuring Bearcat and Wildcat student body cheering section that kept the crowd cheering.

“I love the games where people are up,” commented Dexter’s head volleyball coach Carmen Morgan.  “We have a really good group of boys.  It’s not a large group, but they make a lot of noise and we appreciate them coming.  Bloomfield has a good group of boys too and it makes it fun to play with a crowd like that.”

In the second semifinal game of the evening, the Bernie Mules were victorious over the Advance Hornets 25-21, 25-22.

Bernie was the 2012 conference champions, Dexter the 2013 champs.  They compete Friday evening for the title in Bloomfield.  Game time 8:00 p.m.

“Bloomfield has improved a lot since we played them early in the season,” stated Morgan.  “Lindsey Young is putting the ball down well for them and she’s got that left arm so she is kind of a hard one to catch. Lefties are always hard to deal with in volleyball.”

Dexter’s Jessica Lindsey earned a team-high 10 kills.  Shyann Jines and Krysten Garrison each tallied six kills.

Julia Hahn had 11 assists and Krysten Garrison had 10 assists.

Kristen Garrison, Julia Hahn and Brittany Brown each served one ace.

Dexter is the #1 seed in the SCAA volleyball tournament and is currently ranked #6 in Class 3 according to the latest state rankings.  Bernie is ranked #9 and is the #2 seed with a record of 20-8.  Dexter’s record is 26-2-1.

“We just have to go out and play our game,” Morgan said.  “We want to get rid of the unforced errors, stay up and stay after it.”

In JV action Dexter defeated Bloomfield 25-7, 25-12 and will play Woodland tonight around 7:00 p.m. in Bloomfield for the JV title.  Woodland defeated Advance 25-10, 25-14.

In 3rd place varsity action, the Advance Hornets take on the Bloomfield Wildcats at 6:00 p.m.  The JV Hornets will also compete against the JV Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. for third place.
