Waldner Earns Two State Track Medals

Jefferson City, Missouri -
The Waldner name in Dexter, Missouri is synonymous with athleticism.  MaKayla Waldner who just completed her sophomore year in high school is not only an excellent academic student, but competes in at least five sports on a high school level......soccer, football, tennis, basketball, and track.

Last weekend she traveled to Lincoln University in Jefferson City to compete in two track and field competitions, the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.  This was her second appearance at the state track and field competition and Dexter's only qualifying track athlete this year.

In the 100-meter hurdles Waldner finished 7th with a time of 15.88 seconds.  Medals are awarded to the top eight places in each competition.

In the 300-meter hurdles Waldner finished 2nd with a recorded time of 45.83 seconds, just shy of her high school recording breaking time of 45.55 that she set last week.  Kendra Perren, a senior at DeSoto High School won first place with a time of 44.80.

“It was very exciting,” commented MaKayla.  “It made me feel proud of myself after all the hard work and effort I put in this year.”

Last year Waldner finished 3rd in the 100-meter hurdles and 8th in the 300 meter hurdles as a freshman.

MaKayla does work hard everyday during the season. She practices with the team and is so dedicated that she often stays after and work on hurdles while her friends and classmates head out to have some fun.  She will continue to work-out all summer long Monday through Friday.  She may even try to attend a couple of soccer camps as well.

Makaya competed in three sports at the state level this year - basketball, tennis and track.  This is quite an accomplishment for anyone her age and we hope to see more of her athletic abilities in the next two year.  She is the daughter of Bob and Kimberly Waldner and as parents of such a talented young lady are very proud of her!

Congratulations MaKayla!  The Dexter community is extremely proud of your athletic abilities and your accomplishments.
