Dexter, Missouri – Dexter High School’s Student Council has been awarded the Missouri Association of Student Councils Gold Honor Council Award by the Honor Council Committee of the Missouri Association of Student Councils.  The award was presented at the annual MASC Convention recently held in Windsor High School in Imperial, Missouri.

“Dexter High School met the criteria as established by the Honor Council Committee and the MASC Advisory Board,” stated MASC Chairman Karen Haak.

The criteria established honors those who have a comprehensive program established to promote student activities and student leadership.  These activities include school service, spirit, community service, student and teacher recognition, and leadership training activities.

“Missouri Association of Student Councils recognizes the advisorship of Advisor Jennifer Miller who certainly played a large part in the acquisition of this award,” said Haak, of Moberly, Missouri.  “Dexter High School Principal Dan Pollock should also be commended for supporting the young leaders of Dexter Senior High School.”

Poplar Bluff, Missouri - Ingram’s Magazine has ranked the Nursing program at Three Rivers College among the top nursing programs in Missouri and Kansas.  The list includes 25 colleges and universities from across the two states, with Three Rivers ranking in the top 20 alongside Southeast Missouri State, St. Louis University, and the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Among the top 20, Three Rivers is the only institution listed with accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.  With a student-focused faculty/pupil ratio of 8-to-1, Three Rivers’ Nursing program also has the lowest in-state tuition among the top 20.  In 2012, Three Rivers’ nursing tuition was one-sixteenth the cost of SLU’s program.

“One of our keys to success is our high hiring rate,” said Staci Campbell, chair of Three Rivers’ Department of Nursing and Allied Health.  “Many of our students get hired on before they even graduate. Healthcare providers like the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center make great efforts to woo our students to their organization.”

The Three Rivers Nursing program was established in 1971, with its first class of students graduating in 1973.  Three Rivers offers a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing, which is designed to prepare graduates to pass the state nursing board licensing exam of Missouri.

Three Rivers is still accepting applications for its Fall 2014 day and evening nursing classes in Poplar Bluff. Applicants for the Nursing programs must be enrolled in or have passed MATH 103 or 153, have completed or be enrolled in CHEM 111, take the NLN-PAX-RN pre-entrance exam and achieve a minimum score of 105, and have a minimum 2.5 GPA across all college credit hours completed to be eligible for admission into the programs. The application deadline is March 1. For more information on applying, call the Nursing and Allied Health department at (573) 840-9680.

Three Rivers College is committed to contributing to the quality of life in Southeast Missouri with quality, affordable higher education opportunities and community services that support and encourage the economic, civic, and cultural vitality of the region. Richland High School News

Richland High School News

Essex, Missouri - Third Quarter is officially over (after being extended an extra week due to the winter weather) and we are moving into Fourth Quarter, which means the Junior High will soon be taking the MAP test and high schoolers will be taking their EOCs.

High School News from Principal Mrs. Cindy Rhodes:

Believe it or not, we are entering the MAP and EOC Zone! It is a little nerve wracking for everyone involved to think that we have missed so many school days and are getting ready to be assessed on things that should have been covered in class when…we haven’t even been in class! The students may begin to feel the pressure as teachers try to make up for lost time and cover as much as they can prior to testing to make sure they are prepared as they possible can be. Seventh and eighth grade will begin testing April 23rd through May 15th. High school will begin taking EOC’s April 6th and will also go through May 15th. More information on testing times, dates, and subjects will be released at a later date. Since we have missed so many days, good attendance is more important now than ever.

Also, a big congratulations is in order for Mrs. Stephanie Monroe for receiving the National Beta Gold Seal Sponsor Award. She receives a pin and will be recognized at National Convention this summer. Also, there are several students who have won recent events and/or elected for an office in an organization. It is quite an impressive list and congratulations to all of them!

Eighth grader Luke Rhodes placed second in the State Junior Beta Social Studies test. He will be competing in Richmond, Virginia in June during the Junior Beta National contest. Eighth grader Joshua Shidler finished fifth in the Wire Sculpture category for Richland at the Beta contest as well.

Congratulations to Richland’s FCCLA chapter! We made quite the impression on our Regional FCCLA chapter after competing for office back in January. Charlie Atchison was elected Regional President, Tristan Montgomery was elected Regional Vice President, and Alexis Accord was elected as Regional Secretary. They were sworn into office in late February.
