“I never get to go anywhere.”“He always gets to do that.”
“I never get to do that .
Sound familiar? It does if you have kids. Kids are masters at exaggeration when trying to manipulate us into giving them what they want?
We adults never do that - no,
“If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand times.”
“I’ve had it with you, you are going to spend the next month in your room.”
“If that happens again, I swear, I’ll take them to court.”
Maybe all kinds of people of all ages embellish for effect.
An occasional exaggeration is probably not sinful enough to cause us to lose our salvation, but our Lord would prefer we not do so.
The Word tells us to “let our “yeses be yeses” and our “no’s be no’s”, but sometimes we push the truth envelope into overstatement, and that’s not pleasing to the Creator.
Our God wants us to just tell it like it is.
“Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self.” –Col.3:9,10
