In smaller towns when I was growing up, local doctors listed their telephone numbers in phone books in case one of their patients needed them urgently after office hours. It’s not that way so much anymore. Many doctors don’t list their phone numbers, and it’s understandable for them not to do so. They need down time and sleep to be able to thoroughly examine patients before prescribing treatment, so they tend not to list their numbers.
But thankfully, our God has his number listed. His landline number is Psalm 50:15, “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” His cell number is: Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” Our Creator would have us list our numbers too. He would have us do so in the sense of our being available and approachable to those in need.
“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
