Jerry Barnes

Jerry Barnes, son of the late Henry Barnes and Sylvia Dewitt Barnes was born on July 23, 1944 at Corning, Arkansas and departed this life in the Saint Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau on January 23, 2014 at the age of 69.

Mr. Burns attended the Master’s Touch Church, was a Truck Driver for Watkins Truck Lines in Memphis, Tennessee and was a resident of Dexter.

He was united in marriage to Mary Etta James on December 8, 1979 at Bernie.  She preceded him in death on July 31, 1999.  He was then married to Patsy Kay Mungle Baxter on June 14, 2003 at Dexter.  She survives of the home.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and their spouses, Randy and Diane Barnes of Dexter and Steve and Julie Barnes of Cape Girardeau: by one step-son, Bobby Brotherton of Collinsville, Illinois: by one step-daughter, Paula Roberts of Dexter: by two brothers and their spouses, Danny and Debbie Barnes of Campbell and Larry and Darlene Barnes of Puxico: by three sisters and their spouses, Loretta and Don Walters of Dexter, Barbara and Kenneth Trout of Bernie, Gloria and Charlie Dean of Bernie: by a sister in law, Anglee Barnes of Bernie: by five grandchildren, by one great-granddaughter and six step grandchildren, also by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Besides his wife and parents, two brothers, Billy Doris Barnes and George “Lefty” Barnes, preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home from 9:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 25, 2014.

Funeral services will then be conducted at 11:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Everett Owens officiating.

Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery.
