Springfield, Missouri -
DHS Senior Kendra Stevenson and Sophomore MaKayla Waldner traveled to Springfield to participate in the 2013 MSHAA Class 1 individual doubles state competition on Friday.

With cold temperatures pushing the match back about an hour, the girls suffered their first loss 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 in their opening match against Payton Beeler  and Idalia Aguilar from Marshall, Missouri.

The team won their second match 6-0, 6-2 against Thisbe Scholfield-Johnson and Evadne Rodrigues from Joplin, Missouri on Friday afternoon in the first consolation match.

In the girls' final consolation match, a familiar rivalry would hand them their second loss 6-3, 6-3 eliminating them from the competition.  Carly Hopkins and Reagan Kapp from Notre Dame who the girls faced early in the season were just too much.

"The girls one a match," stated Kurt Lovelady, head tennis coach. "They wanted to win more matches, but there is no way to prepare for their first experience at state.  They played well and they played Notre Dame better than than they did earlier in the season so I couldn't be more proud of them."

MaKayla will return to tennis next year and will make another run at winning a state championship.  She will travel with the Dexter Football Bearcats Thursday to compete in the first round football play-offs at Potosi.   Stevenson will be back in action in the spring during softball season.

The Lady 'Cats end their season with a record of 11-3 in doubles.  The Dexter community is pretty proud of their Bearcats and we hope for their great success in the future.

Way to go TEAM MAKENDRA!!!We are PROUD of you!!
