Wappapello, Missouri - Girl Scouts have been writing, singing, and playing songs that celebrate their club and its motto of sisterhood and the typical ideals of Girl Scouting since the club first began. Help keep this old tradition alive and sing to your heart's content around the campfire with our local Girl Scout troops.

This time of year is perfect for bonfires and the weather is finally settling down enough for the Girl Scouts to have one of their oldest club traditions. Our local Sun Down Sing Along will be held at the Latonka Program Center from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Saturday, September 28th. Girl Scouts of all ages, including: Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette, Senior, and Ambassador are welcome to join this upcoming event.

This great opportunity will be complete with s'mores, songs, and the fellowship with the other Girl Scout sisters. If you want to be a part of this tradition, you're in luck! The deadline for this event will be extended until September 25th. The cost for the Girl Scouts planning on attending will be $6 and the price for adults will be the same amount.

Don't forget that if you have a favorite Girl Scout song, send it to the Girl Scout office in Dexter so that your favorite song can be featured in the special song book during the sing along this weekend on Saturday.

Our local Girl Scouts will also be hosting a Girl Scouts and Non-Girl Scouts camp-out at Camp Latonka on Friday, October 11th and Saturday, October 12th. The cost for both nights will be $15 and the cost for only Saturday night will be $13. If non-participants would like to buy just the t-shirt by itself, the cost would be $12.

On Friday night, check in will be held from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. After that, there will be activities held in the dining hall. On Friday night, there will be a bring your own sack supper, but meals will be provided on Saturday. If you wish to attend, be sure to pack your own camping supplies, including: a sleeping bag, a pillow, toiletries, a flashlight, and a change of clothes.

On Saturday, the check-in for the Saturday campers will begin at 9:00am. Activities will be held all day long and later that night, there will be a bonfire held at the lake front. Girl Scout Troops will be preparing their songs and skits to share for that night.

The camp-out is a great way to spend time in the outdoors with your family and friends and it is open to Girl Scouts and Non-Girl Scouts alike. Both upcoming Girl Scouts activities will be fun for everyone, so be sure not to miss your chance to sign up!

DHS Football Players Surprise Small Wonders Children

Dexter, Missouri - The children at Small Wonders Child Development Center were excited to see several of the Dexter High School football team show up to demonstrate some plays and talk about football.

The children were dressed for the occasion in their red and black showing their Bearcat pride!

Peyton Pollock, quarterback for the Bearcats handed off the football to DJ Dowdy who ran as "fast" as he could and was "tackled" by children who were giggling, laughing and screaming as they ran after him.

Everyone seemed to have a great time.  Some of the little girls were surprised to see a "girl" football player.  Miss MaKayla was introduced by Coach Peden and he told the youngsters that even little girls can grow up and play football if they work hard and practice!

The players invited the children to come out and watch a football game and cheer for the Bearcats!

Thank you Coach Peden and all of the football players who took time out of their schedule to stop by and see the youngsters at Small Wonders.  Memories that will last forever!

Small Wonders Child Development Center is located in the First Baptist Church at 311 N. Walnut St. in Dexter, Missouri.  For more information about the daycare please contact them at 573-624-3688.

FCA Collects Over 300 Pairs of Shoes

Dexter, Missouri - When the students at Dexter High School were asked to bring in shoes for the people of Nicaragua.  They gave in true spirit.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) gathered Friday morning for prayer and breakfast and discovered over 300 pair of shoes had been collected by the students.

"This is amazing,"  commented Kurt Lovelady, Math Teacher and co-organizer of the shoe drive.  "I showed the students last week a photo of what these people were wearing on their feet instead of shoes and the students couldn't believe what they saw.  They were dismayed by the fact that the people had plastic two liter bottles cut in half wrapped with twine and were using them as sandals."

We are so blessed to live in the greatest country on earth and to see people living in poverty the way these people do is truly heartbreaking, especially seeing the children.

Pam Jolliff of the First Baptist Church is organizing the mission trip.  A team goes every year to Nicaragua to help the people there.

Shown in the photo are FCA officers, Kendra Stevenson, Madison McGowan, Shyann Jines, and Mary Kate Miller.
