Dexter, Missouri - Friday nights game should be spectacular as the Dexter Bearcats take on the Ste. Genevieve Dragons.

Ste. Gen is going to be a strong competitor as the Bearcats lost 47-14 last season against the Dragons.  They are also coming off their worst season in over 50 years.  The Dragons were 10-2 in the 2012 season and are equipped with two seniors at the helm, Brandon Dallas and Matt Drury.

The Bearcats, under their new leadership, will have much to prove this season!  Their new head coach Justin Peden is quite optimistic.  Dexter has a new offensive philosophy: a spread offense and lots and lots of passing.

Dexter’s newest student, Peyton Pollock, a junior who recently moved here from Crystal City is the Bearcat's new quarterback.  They has an excellent throwing arm and is also a powerful runner.

Both D.J. Dowdy and Cody Neldon have returned to the field in their last year at Dexter High School.  As offensive powerhouses, they hope to score many touchdowns for the Bearcats!

Seniors Trevor Waldner and Jon Foels are expected to handle the rushing responsibilities for the Bearcats and have done extremely well scoring during early scrimmages in Kennett and Sikeston.

Coach Peden stated, “Kyle Stearns has returned and is a key defensive player.  He is probably our best defensive player on the line.”  He surprised everyone by returning to Dexter for his chance to play with his classmates.  He had moved away and missed the last two years while battling cancer.  It will be great to have Kyle back and we look forward to watching him play!

There will be another surprise on the field this year for the Bearcats, “GIRL POWER”.   Dexter’s first female football player will take the field kicking for the Bearcats.  MaKayla Waldner may be new to DHS football, but she has proven herself on the field and on the court in basketball, track and field, and tennis.

With all these new changes there is a wonderful renewed sense of school spirit.  This year on the sidelines will be the Pep Club, which had not made an appearance in several years.  We are sure Bearcat will make an appearance to get the fans really cheering for the football team!

Dexter is competing with some very strong teams in Class 3, District 1.  Kennett, who recently lost their quarterback with a broken foot in the recent scrimmage, Fredericktown, Park Hills Central, Potosi, New Madrid County Central, and Ste. Genevieve.

Last year Ste. Genevieve was finally knocked off in the title game by Park Hills Central.  Dexter will play away at Park Hills Central on October 18th.

We’ve go a lot to get done and just four quarters to do it! It should be an exciting game opener!  Go Bearcats!  Game time 7:00 p.m.

The ShowMe Times will be on the sidelines taking many photos so watch for them on Facebook as well as the post-game article!
