Marguerite R. Burke, daughter of the late William B. Layton and Elsie Tuttle Layton, was born on April 23, 1929 in East Prairie, Missouri and passed away on August 19, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Dexter at the age of 84 years.

Mrs. Burke was affiliated with the First Church of the Nazarene of Dexter and the Second General Baptist Church of Dexter, had worked as a sales clerk at Lois’ Dress Shop, formerly Nina’s Dress Shop, in Dexter for thirty years and was a resident of Dexter.

On July 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to James C. Burke in Dexter, Missouri.  Mr. Burke preceded her in death on November 1, 1993.

She is survived by one son, James W. Burke of Jackson, Missouri; by one daughter, Sharon M. Trammell of Dexter, Missouri; by one brother, Jerry D. Layton of Dexter; by one sister, Francis Russell of Crystal River, Florida; and by three grandchildren, Travis L. Burke, Brian Burke and Jared Burke. 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Layton, Bill Layton and Harold “Bud” Layton.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, August 22, 2013 from Noon to 2:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roger Wooten and Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating.

Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
