Puxico, Missouri – The Puxico Public Library is having a 50/50 raffle fundraiser to purchase books and support the library.   The winner will be drawn the Saturday of Homecoming and you do not have to be present to win.

Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and you may purchase them at the library or from any library board member.

The Puhicah Club established the Puxico Public Library in 1936.  It began with a lending book service from a shelf kept at the White Drug Store in downtown Puxico, Missouri.

Later, in 1937 a native cypress log structure was built and is their current library.  The log building is unique in that the exterior features horizontal logs and the interior features vertical log construction.

The library is an important piece of history for Puxico, as it is the only log cabin library in the United States.  People come from all over to admire this architectural wonder.

Holly Hemby, librarian, hosts a Story Hour for children each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.  Children from birth to 5 years old are welcome to attend.  The library hosts a Summer Reading program each year for children birth to Junior High age.

The Puxico Public Library is located at 201 N. Hickman Street.  For more information please call 573-222-3855.  Library hours are Monday from 1 – 5 p.m., Tuesday thru Wednesday 8 a.m. – Noon, Thursday from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – Noon.  Closed Saturday and Sunday.

Please join the library and make every effort to support this fabulous piece of history.
