USA - If you’re like many Americans, your mother warned you to always wear clean underwear in case you were “in an accident!” Although there are probably better reasons to wear fresh underwear, this is the one that most often comes to mind.

The national underwear manufacturer, Freshpair, has taken the idea of fresh underwear one giant step further. They’re inviting everyone to participate in setting a new Guinness World Record by wearing their underwear to Times Square on “National Underwear Day,” August 5 at 5 p.m. EST.  The current record is 2,270.    Can you imagine that many folks out in Times Square?

Freshpair founded National Underwear Day on August 5th, 2003. This year they are reaching out to “… cancer survivors struggling to regain their lives, men and women suffering with poor body image, and young and old embracing their sexuality.”

If a trip to New York City isn’t in your travel budget, you can still celebrate by watching the 1983 romance comedy “Risky Business” starring Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay.

Freshpair also participates in the annual Underwear Run in Manhattan with over 500 people dressed in their underwear.  Celebrate America was the theme event.

So the next time you have to give a speech and someone says, “just imagine everyone in their underwear!”  You can declare, “August 5th is National Underwear Day!  Always have a FreshPair on!”

Dexter, Missouri - The Rotary Club of Dexter recently hosted their 8th Annual Golf Tournament.  Each year the proceeds from the tournament are used for community service projects, student scholarships and other worthy causes and this year was no different.

With their motto, “Service Above Self” the Rotarians chose to donate half of the proceeds to the victims of the Moore, Oklahoma.  A tornado in May of 2013 practically wiped the town off the map.

Linda Puchbauer, Assistant District Governor of the Rotary was on hand Tuesday evening at Hickory Log to receive the check from the previous Rotarian President, Mr. Ken Harris.

Ken was instrumental in spearheading the idea of donating to such a worthy cause and made every effort to help make this year's golf tournament enjoyable.  Along with several members of the Rotary Club, the tournament thrived with success.  In all, a check was donated in the amount of $3,050 to help those affected by the tornado.

The Rotary Club felt that supporting the relief and recovery efforts related to this tragic event was important because so many families suffered.  More than 13,000 homes were destroyed or damaged, in addition to businesses and schools.

The Rotary Club of Dexter is always seeking new members.  they meet weekly and enjoy various speakers in the community.  If you are interested in speaking or would like to join the Rotary Club please contact Jack Rodgers at 624-5762 or at his email address jrod63841@yahoo.com.  Also check out their new Facebook page, Dexter Rotary Club.

National Father-In-Law Day is an annual holiday celebrated every July 30th.  It was dedicated to honor that loving, funny, and cheerful father-in-law.  Perhaps he is a little grumpy or intimidating to the newlyweds.  Regardless of his personality and charms, this day is dedicated to your spouse’s DAD!

Enjoy spending some extra time bonding with and strengthening your relationship with your father-in-law today.  This could be a day of golfing, hiking, playing cards, going to a movie, drinking coffee on the deck, fishing or whatever he likes to do.

If your father-in-law is no longer on this earth, remember him in a special way.

Though Father-In-Law Day is not a federal or even a state holiday in the U.S., it is one to be appreciated.  The origin of Father-In-Law’s Day is also unknown; however it is suspected to have been created by greeting card companies.  Either way it’s the perfect time to honor your Father-In-Law!

Happy Father-In-Law Day to all and enjoy YOUR day!

Puxico, Missouri - The U.S. Department of Labor placed an enrollment freeze on the Job Corps across the nation in January in response to an estimated $60 million shortfall for the federal job-training program.

The program encountered two consecutive budget deficits after the Labor Department moved the program’s budgeting and procurement operations from the Office of Job Corps to the Employment and Training Division.

For the first time since January, the center near Puxico enrolled 4 new students on July 16th, according to Tim Aslin, Business and Community Liaison at Mingo Job Corps.

“Many local non-profit groups benefit from the efforts of our students. Our students volunteer a great deal of time to local public events from parking cars at the Stoddard County Fair to assisting the handicapped participate in fishing programs at Lake Wappapello”. added Aslin.

Mingo Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center is a residential vocational and educational training program serving students ages 16 to 24, located near Puxico, Missouri.
