Dexter, Missouri - The City of Dexter offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2013 in observance of Independence Day. 

Commonly referred to as the Fourth of July, Independence Day is a Federal Holiday and commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. 

In the United States, we commonly associate our celebrations with fireworks, parades, BBQs, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and ceremonies.

The first 4^th of July celebration was held in Eastport, Maine in 1820 and is still one of the largest in the country.
