Cape Girardeau, Missouri - The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Mathematics hosted the 35th Annual Math Field Day in April of 2013 at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

The event included students from 29 area high schools who competed in the field of math.  Approximately 661 students participated in a multitude of areas, including algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, word problems, sets and logic, exponential and log functions, matrices and determinants, computational mathematics, elementary data analysis, probability, mental arithmetic, non-routine problem solving, analytic geometry,number bases, number theory, hand calculators and calculus.

Area schools who battled it out in this year's competition were Anna-Jonesboro, Arcadia Valley, Bell City, Bernie, Campbell, Cape Central, Caruthersville, Cobden, Delta R-5, Dexter High School, Eagle Ridge Christian School, Farmington, Fredericktown R-I, Hayti, Herrin, Leopold R-III, Malden, Marion, North St. Francois County R-I, Notre Dame Regional High School, Oak Ridge R-VI, Poplar Bluff, Puxico, Saxony Lutheran School, Scott City R-I, St. Vincent, Ste. Genevieve, The Christian Academy and Viburnum C-4.

Dr. Jerzy Wodjylo Southeast Missouri State University professor was the chair for this year's Math Field Day Committee.

Dexter Senior High School's, Math Instructor, Mr. Kurt Lovelady, traveled to Cape with several students to compete in the Math Field Day event. 

Dexter was placed in the large school division and competed against students from Herrin, IL, Farmington, Notre Dame, and Cape Girardeau.  The four student math team did an exceptional job and placed 2nd in Trigonometry.  Congratulations to Logan Webb, Sam Ward, Chase Young, and Ryan Joyner.

Drew Thompson, a sophomore at DHS placed 2nd in Algebra II and Jacob Robinson, a junior placed 3rd in Word Problems.  Congratulations to both of them on a job well done.
