Dexter, Missouri -  Each year students all over Missouri compete by sending in a recording of their voices.  Mrs. Jamie Sepulvado was asked to send in recordings of the student's voices on an Art Song of their choice and other material.  Only 200 students from the entire state of Missouri are chosen and this year 10 seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students were selected from TS Hill Middle School and the Dexter High School.

This is only the second year that students from Dexter have auditioned and last year seven students were accepted into one of Missouri's top choirs.

The Missouri Choral Directors Association Honors Choir is made of exceptional choir students and they will travel to Jefferson City, Missouri on July 23rd to rehearse for their July 24th performance.

This is a great opportunity for students and a true honor to be selected.  "It is my hope that this event will continue to grow and each year more and more students will audition," stated Mrs. Jamie Sepulvado, Choral Director for Dexter Public Schools.  "I couldn't be more proud as a choir teacher to see this growth and guide these students down a successful path with their music."

Students selected from the 7th and 8th grade are Andrew Teel, Tres Hampton, Tanner Rickman, Caroline Powers, Sarah Miller, Angel Maze, and Shelby Smith.

Students selected from the 9th grade are Brooks Propst, Shelby Gathings, and Jon Rodgers.

Essex, Missouri – Richland High School will be holding free sports physicals all day during school hours for any student wishing to participate in sports next school year. Any student wanting to play fall sports such as volleyball and basketball must have an up to date physical record. Marching band students (both high school and junior high) are also required to have a sports physical.

Most of the screenings will be held in the morning during the first few hours of the day. All paperwork must be filled out and signed by a parent or guardian. Students are responsible for bringing the paperwork with them tomorrow. Forms are also available in the high school office. They have asked that all boys wanting to get a physical to wear shorts tomorrow (May 8th).

The free sports physicals are sponsored by the Richland PTO and Hollie Hughes. 

Poplar Bluff, Missouri - The success of Three Rivers College comes from the combined efforts of its faculty and staff, partners, and supporters.  The college celebrated these efforts April 26^th at the 3^rd Annual ACE Awards, a gal for college personnel to recognize achievements, contributions and excellence.

Selected for the President’s IMPACT Award were the directors of Three Rivers’ four full-service centers:  Bill Hampton, Director of the Center at Dexter; Connie Hampton, Director of the Center at Malden; Missy Marshal, Director of the Center at Sikeston; and Ann Matthews, Director of the Center at Kennett.

Together and individually, our center directors have made a significant impact in the past year.  They have done an outstanding job of reaching out to surrounding communities and making them feel included in the Three Rivers family. 

They have made Three Rivers more visible and more highly regarded by building relationships that demonstrate how we care about those communities.  Their efforts are a key to an enrollment shift that this spring saw more credit hours generated out-of-district than in-district.  Quite the accomplishment and congratulations to all four of these educators.

Many other awards were celebrated, including the Outstanding Student Support and it was awarded to the Dexter Center Director Bill Hampton.  It was a wonderful evening of recognition and fellowship to all of the staff of Three Rivers College.

Adrienne Burfield of the Poplar Bluff High School Class of 2013 has been awarded a $15,000 annually renewable scholarship in the University of Alabama - Birmingham Honors Program, where she plans to pursue her professional degree in medicine so she can enter the pediatric care field.

Burfield, who is only eighteen years old, will graduate high school with a total of 74 credit hours from Three Rivers College, having maintained a 4.0 GPA at the secondary and higher education institutions, respectively. In December, she was the first student to complete her associate degree requirements through College Now, a dual credit program between the community college and PBHS. On top of the necessary 62 credits, Burfield opted to continue to take college courses this spring semester.  She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.

She will continue to keep up the good work and has inspired many students to persevere and work hard on their academic curriculum. With the many graduations in the near future all over the nation, it is important to remember that having a plan is a good thing, but having the motivation to put the plan into action is even better. For all of the lowerclassmen that are not quite ready to walk across the stage and receive their diploma, Burfield’s amazing achievements should inspire them to continue to work hard and take advantage of their high school’s dual credit classes so they can be a step ahead after they graduate and move onto college.

We would like to wish Burflield and all of the other seniors preparing to graduate good luck to them and their bright futures!
