Dexter, Missouri – April 30th would have been Larry Jones’ birthday. It was quite appropriate that the Larry B. Jones H.O.P.E. Campaign’s drawing was held live on KDEX Radio that day.
“We grew up here and we know how generous and caring the people are in this community,” stated Lora Galati, daughter of Larry B. Jones.
The final count for this year’s fundraiser was $6,317.00 bringing a total of over $23,000 since 2011. “WOW! Every year this community blows us away,” exclaimed Galati.
This year we raffled two $500 Wal-Mart gift cards to raise money. The winners were Larry Arnold and Gabe Galati. The family wanted to thank all those who sold the tickets, Allen Christian Buick GMC, Autry Morlan Chevrolet-Cadillac and KDEX for their advertising.
“On behalf of Larry B. Jones H.O.P.E. Campaign and 18 FORE Life, we want to say THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts!” sincerely the family of Larry B. Jones.

Dexter, Missouri – If yard sale signs are appearing, then surely it must be spring! Conditions are ideal! Temperatures above 70 and daylight savings time are key ingredients for the perfect treasure hunting adventure.
Everyone knows you can find a really good deal at a garage sale. With homeowners having a collection of stuff left over from spring cleaning and many yard sale enthusiasts who cannot wait to do some bargain hunting after a winter spent cooped up indoors, it’s a win win situation for all involved. Sellers get rid of their unwanted items and make money, while buyers score some once-in-a-lifetime deals.
Advertising your yard or garage sale is a must; however most cities and counties have rules, especially for signage. The City of Dexter states that you can only have a yard sale 3 days a month and only 2 days in a row.
Also you may not post a sign on CITY EASEMENT and definitely not on stop signs, utility poles or other types of traffic signs. Community sponsored events and produce are exempt from these rules, but may have different their own set of rules to follow.A Sales Tax Certificate is also required and that falls under the Missouri Department of Revenue (Chapter 144RSMo) and not the city of Dexter. That is something most people do not think about, but it is the law.
To get the biggest bang for your buck with advertising don’t forget there are hosts of free online classifieds. Yardsi, Facebook, Twitter, and Craigslist just to name a few are extremely popular online tools you can advertise your yards sale for free.
Here are some tips for having a successful yard sale:
Advertize as much as possible
Sell on Saturday
Get a team of friends together
Start early
Sell with your neighbors
Safety first (don't let strangers in your home)
Price everything in advance
Be willing to negotiate on price
Don’t sell anything unsafe, broken or recalled
Put big ticket items close to the road or out front
Offer coffee or lemonade (free) or even doughnuts (cheap)
Use fanny packs and have lots of change

Puxico, Missouri – There is nothing more rewarding than taking your daughter on her first big hunt. It takes time, patients, and a good hunting environment. The type of game is not as important as the methods and means to having a great hunt that will be remembered for a lifetime.
Alex Hanners took his daughter, Jennifer, on her first “real” hunt. Sure they have hunted deer and various other critters in southeast Missouri, but this was Texas. Some say everything's bigger in Texas!
They traveled with Curtis Waggoner , Adam Koehler and Four Corners Archery out of Sedgewickville, Missouri to the Texas ‘S’ Bow Hunting Ranch in Clarksville, Texas to hunt HOGS!
Jennifer Hanners, age 12, and a 6th grader at Puxico Jr. High was eager to hunt with her Dad and his buddies to kill some mean ole’ boar, but she never expected to meet up with a Corsican Ram!
On the weekend of April 6th, carrying only a primitive wooden homemade bow and some handcrafted arrows, she stalked her prey and hit the beautiful 157 lb ram dead center.
“I will hunt with that girl anytime!” exclaimed Dale Kemp, Sergeant at Arms of the Crowley’s Ridge Blackpowder Club and long-time friend of the family. He too hunted with her the entire weekend and harvested his hogs. He remembers when she was just a little princess, dressed in pink and just a baby.Jennifer is your typical young pre-teen student who is not only a beautiful, but also likes to hunt, fish and camp! She loves sports, such as playing basketball at her school, attending school dances, designing and making jewelry, playing the French horn in the school band and singing. She also loves blackpowder rendezvous events, swimming and kayaking.
She is the granddaughter of Dale & Teresa Hanners of Campbell, Missouri and Robert and Elizabeth Eldridge of Winona, Mississippi. They are very proud grandparents and can’t believe how their little girl grew so fast.
Her parents, Alex and Shannon Hanners and little brother, Brandon are very proud of her as well. “I was so excited for my daughter, not only because she got game on our hunt, but because of how she handled herself,” commented Dad. “Jen made good ethical decisions and I saw my little girl grow up right in front of me!”
Piggott Taxidermy in Piggott, Arkansas is currently mounting Jen’s Corsican Ram. She is looking forward to hanging the ram in the living room, right above the television. It should be ready before school starts in August.
Miss Hanners also killed her first hog on this hunt, an 85 lb boar shot with her primitive bow and wooden arrows.
Congratulations Jen on your big hunt! We look forward to seeing pictures of your hunting adventures in the near future.
