Desmond E. Becker

Desmond E. Becker, son of the late Henry Becker and Agnes Braswell Becker, was born on February 10, 1932 in London, Arkansas, and departed this life on April 9, 2013, in his residence near Sikeston, Missouri, at the age of 81 years.

Mr. Becker was a member of the First General Baptist Church of Morehouse. He had been employed as a salesman for Malone & Hyde Grocery in Sikeston and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. 

He was very active in the Sikeston and Dexter Babe Ruth Baseball programs.  He was the coach of two Sikeston Babe Ruth teams that went to the Babe Ruth World Series.  His 1959 Sikeston Babe Ruth All-Star team placed second at the Babe Ruth World Series.  He was a member of the Southeast Missouri Baseball Hall Of Fame.  He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing.

On February 12, 1955, he was united in marriage to Glenda Garner Becker in Hernando, Mississippi.  Mrs. Becker survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark Becker, and his wife, Cathy, and Brian Becker and his wife, Laura, all of Dexter, Missouri; one daughter, Christy Mathis and her husband, Don, of Crossville, Tennessee; by seven grandchildren, Chelsea McMunn and her husband, Cory, Alex Becker, Nathan Lake, Luke Becker, Lilly Warrick, Christian Stallings and Josey Roper; and by one great-grandchild, Carly Jane McMunn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Mickey Becker; by one brother, Dalton V. Becker; and by one sister, Lamona Backus. 

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, April 11, 2013, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 12, 2013, at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Randy Thomas officiating.

Interment will follow in the Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Morley, Missouri.
