Dexter, Missouri – The First Baptist Church of Dexter is featuring the movie, “The Passion of the Christ” this Friday evening.

“The Passion” as it is referred to often is a 2004 American drama film directed by Mel Gibson and starring Jim Caviezel as Jesus Christ.  It depicts the Passion of Jesus largely according to the New Testament Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The movie covers the final twelve hours of Jesus’ life, beginning with the Agony in the Garden and ending with a brief depiction of his resurrection.

Mel Gibson said of the movie, “This is a movie about love, hope, faith and forgiveness.  Jesus died for all mankind, suffered for all of us.  It is time to get back to that basic message.  The world has gone nuts.  We could all use a little more love, faith, hope and forgiveness.”

The movie was filmed in Italy, primarily at Cincecitta Studios in Rome and also in the old city of Matera.  It was released on Ash Wednesday in 2004 and was rate R by the Motion Picture Association for “sequences of graphic violence”.

“The Passion of the Christ” won awards such as, Freedom of Expression, Favorite Motion Picture Drama from the People’s Choice Awards, Best Film Production, Best Film Actress, Best Picture and a multitude of genres of accolades.  It was also nominated for several Oscars that year including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Film.

This is a wonderful, highly emotional movie to watch and everyone should have the opportunity to view this movie.

The movie will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Good Friday, March 29th at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall located at 11 W. Castor St. in Dexter.
