With the first semester of school down, the students of Dexter High School were highly anticipating the Winter Homecoming that was held last night.
There are many things that go along with homecoming if you’re a Bearcat. There is always a “Homecoming Week,” which consists of different activities each day of the week to match that homecoming’s theme.
Many students at DHS enjoy homecoming each time it comes around because it simply adds a more fun twist to the school day.
One of the biggest things that the students anticipate, (besides the dance), is the crowning of the homecoming queen. For Winter Homecoming, each winter sports team nominates two girls to represent their team as a candidate. Each girl is then asked to have an escort, and then during homecoming week, votes are casted by the student body.
Last night the Winter Homecoming Crowning was held in between the Junior Varsity and Varsity games in the Bearcat Event Center.
Each girl was announced with her and her escort as they walked across the gym floor. After the announcement of each candidate, the drum rolled, and the Homecoming Court was announced.
Hannah Noe received 2nd alternate. Hannah is a junior at DHS. She was nominated by the girls basketball team and escorted by Blake Horton.
MaKayla Waldner was announced next as the 1st alternate. MaKayla is a freshman and was nominated by the wrestling team. Makayla’s brother, Trevor Waldner, was her escort.
After much anticipation, Sydney Graves was announced as the 2013 Winter Homecoming Queen. Sydney is a senior at Dexter High School. She was nominated by the boys basketball team and Chandler Young was her escort for the Homecoming Crowning activities. Retiring queen, Stephanie Gee, was present for the crowning during the ceremony.
Congratulations to these girls and also to each girl who was nominated!
