It was a much-anticipated match up last night as the Dexter Bearcats and the Bernie Mules traveled to Bell City for their 8:00 P.M. match up against each other.

Earlier in the season, the Bearcats played a very tense game against the Mules and pulled out ahead but using three sets to do so.

Last night during the Stoddard County Tournament it was a different story though. It seemed as though Bernie could do no wrong when they stepped onto the court for the competition. The Mules had spot-on serves and kills that were unstoppable.

During the first set, the score rallied back and forth between the two evenly talented teams until Bernie took off at the end with a 19-25 victory over the Bearcats.

Most Bearcat fans expected to see a great turn around during the second set as everyone hoped Coach Morgan could fire her team up enough to send them to victory. The team was fired up throughout the second set and they came out stronger than they had in the first. It just wasn’t enough to withstand Bernie’s offense though.

Throughout the first and second sets, Dexter fell short on a lot of their serves; giving Bernie a free point. That’s not to say that it wasn’t a nail biting game to sit through though. As the two teams battled back and forth the whole second set, Bernie eventually took the win with a 23-25 victory over the Bearcats as they defeated them in just two sets.

It was a great game to be watched by fans of both teams as they all played with their hearts. The two teams are always evenly matched which makes for good volleyball watching year after year.

The Stoddard County Volleyball Tournament will continue tonight in Bell City.
