Josephine Lee

Josephine Lee daughter, of the late Benjamin Hill and Clara Chasteen Hill, was born on April 16, 1934 in Dudley, Missouri and died on September 2, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Dexter at the age of 78.

She was a graduate of the Puxico High School class of 1950.  On June 13, 1953 she was united in marriage to Bill Lee in Yuma, Arizona.  They lived near the Marine base at camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California.  After Mr. Lee’s service in the Marines, they made their home in St. Louis, Missouri for thirty-six years.  After retirement they moved to Dexter.  She enjoyed sewing, playing the piano, writing poetry and other hobbies.

She had a love for the Lord.  Before entering high school, she had an early conversion and joined Rockhill Baptist Church, and was baptized.  When she came from St. Louis, she chose Sadler Chapel United Methodist Church as her home church. 

Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter and son in law, Mickey and husband C.E. Tuley of Dexter; by one sister, Bessie Bridges of Puxico, Missouri and by one granddaughter, Jennifer Rowland of St. Louis, Missouri.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Hill and by one granddaughter, JoAnna Lee Tuley.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 5:00P.M.-8:00P.M.  Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Pastor Sue Welborn and Pastor Dave Fowler officiating.  Interment will follow in the Sadler Chapel cemetery.

Rev. William (Bill) Pitts Sr.

Rev. William (Bill) Pitts Sr., son of  Ruby Tunnell Pitts of El Reno, Oklahoma and the late James Robert Pitts Sr. was born on August 16, 1941 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and departed this life in the Golden Living Center in Dexter on September 3, 2012 at the age of 71.

     Rev. Pitts was a minister in the Assembly Of God Church for forty one years, pastoring churches in Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a Eagle Scout and recipient of the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award.

     He was united in marriage to Lenora Ann Long on January 5, 1961 at Worthington.  Mrs. Pitts preceded him in death on January 26, 2007.

     He is survived by one son, William E. Pitts Jr. of El Reno, Oklahoma: by three daughters, Ruby Lenora Pitts of Kansas City, Billie Shelton of Dexter and Lisa Renee Marsh of Columbia: by his mother, Ruby Pitts of El Reno, Oklahoma: by two brothers, Roy Allen Pitts of Edmond, Oklahoma and Thomas Edward Pitts of El Reno, Oklahoma: by one sister, Sally Sue Sims of Lawton,  Oklahoma: by eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

     Besides his wife and father, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Robert Pitts Jr.

     Friends may call at the Glad Tidings Assembly Of God Church in Moberly, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 5, 2012.  Funeral services will then be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 6, 2012 in the Glad Tidings Assembly Of God Church with Rev, Manuel Shultz officiating.  Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Jacksonville with Full Military Honors.

Michael Walker son of William Hanham of Leonard, Michigan and the late Cathy Hanham was born on February 25, 1972 in Pontiac, Michigan and died on August 25, 2012 at the age of 40.

Mr. Walker was a construction worker and a resident of Bloomfield.

He is survived by one son, Matt Sherfield of Dexter; by one brother, John Walker of St. Louis, Missouri; by two sisters, Terri Hentkowski of Malden and Jennifer Hanham of Bernie; by three nephews, Colby Collins, Christopher Walker and Jacob Whitsel; by stepfather Donald Morris of Dexter; by one stepsister, Mary Morris of Dexter and by two stepbrothers, DJ Morris of Dexter and Frank Morris of St. Louis, Missouri.

Besides his mother he was preceded in death by one brother, Matt Hanham.

Friends may call at the Lighthouse Christian Church in Dexter on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 from 1:30 P.M. until 3:00 P.M.  Funeral services will then be conducted on Wednesday at 3:00 P.M. at the Lighthouse Christian Church with Rev. Tim Russell officiating.  Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.

Rev. Lloyd Barks, son of the late William S. and Bessie Steward Barks, was born in McGee, Missouri on January 20, 1935, and passed away at his home in Puxico, Missouri on August 25, 2012, at the age of 77 years, 7 months and 5 days.

Lloyd had lived in St. Louis for 20 years and the McGee and Puxico, Missouri areas the rest of his life. He was a retired General Baptist minister and had pastored the Bright Prospect General Baptist Church at McGee, worked for McDonnell-Douglass in St. Louis and had a custom hay hauling business. He is a member of the First General Baptist Church in Puxico. He enjoyed gardening, the church bulletin, his family newsletter and loved his grandchildren.

On August 21, 1954, he was married to Ruby Wills in Zalma, Missouri.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Barks of Puxico, Missouri; one son, Steve Barks of Gilbertsville, Kentucky, four daughters, Shelia Jones of Puxico, Missouri, Sharon Simmers of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Karen Hughes of Bernie, Missouri, Cheryl Welty of Advance, Missouri; ten grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Johnson of Watson, Oklahoma, Irene Hendrix and Berniece Adams both of Puxico, Missouri. Other family and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Sherman, Ivan, Eli and Joe Barks; and two sisters, Goldie Marie Hefner and Berta Lee Barks.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the First General Baptist Church in Puxico, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the First General Baptist Church in Puxico, Missouri with the Rev. Kenneth Lambert of Bloomfield, Missouri officiating and Rev. Steve Jones assisting.

Interment will follow at the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

Gene Underwood

Gene Underwood, son of the late Walter Underwood and Ola Humphrey Underwood, was born May 4, 1928, in Fairview, Missouri, and departed this life at Golden Living Center in Bloomfield, Missouri, on August 23, 2012, at the age of 84.

 

Gene was a member of the First General Baptist Church at Bloomfield, Missouri.  Gene brought great joy to those he came in contact with. He made his daily rounds in downtown Bloomfield to Charlie Christian’s store and to the various offices of Stoddard County Government.

 

Survivors include two sisters, Pansy Dennis and Jessie Mae Robey, both of Bloomfield, Missouri also by other relatives and many friends.

 

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Norman Underwood, Carl “Cobb” Underwood, Walter Underwood, Jr. and Joe Underwood.

 

Friends may call at the First General Baptist Church at Bloomfield from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., Saturday, August 25, 2012.  Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at 1:00 P.M., at the First General Baptist Church at Bloomfield with the Rev. Kevin Eskew officiating.  Interment will follow at the Walker Cemetery at Bloomfield, Missouri.
