An arid spring brought only 4 inches of rain to Missouri in May and June when normal rainfall should be around 10 inches
With at least a 10–inch rain deficit and some of the hottest temperatures on record, most of Missouri is experiencing heat records and drought.
Because of these dry conditions, a number of government agencies are banning fires and seeking help from the public.
The Stoddard County Commission is scheduled to meet in a unique session at 8:30 a.m., Friday, June 29 in the Commission Chambers in Bloomfield. The main item on the agenda is a discussion by commissioners on a burn ban in the county.
The City of Dexter issued a no-burn order on Wednesday, following wildfires in Dexter and the surrounding area on Tuesday. Burning in the city is prohibited until further notice.
