Chicka Boom At Summer School

Chicka chicka, boom, boom!

It's summer school time in the Dexter Public Schools, and the students in Shannon Putnam's class have been busy this month with learning the alphabet and sounds.

The students - in kindergarten and first grade - recently read the classic children's book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom".

In this bright and lively rhyme, the letters of the alphabet race each other to the top of the coconut tree. When X, Y and Z finally scramble up the trunk, however, the weight is too much, and down they all tumble in a colorful chaotic heap: "Chicka Chicka . . . BOOM! BOOM!"

The students in Putnam’s made "coconut trees" - all edible with apple slices, grapes and wafer cookies.Summer School began in Dexter on June 4, and students attend class each day from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Next week is the last week for classes this summer.
