CAPE GIRARDEAU - All-American senior third baseman Trenton Moses was putting all his skills to the test this season. The Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks were 23-36 and a little help came from Moses.

Trenton is the son of Bob and Lisa Moses of Advance, Mo. Moses graduated in 2007 from Advance High School, where he was top ten in his class.

Moses earned All-State, All-Conference, and All-Southeast Missourian for three years as an infielder and pitcher for the Advance Hornets; he notched a 1.87 ERA with 47 strikeouts and only five walks in 30 innings on the mound in 2006.

He batted .549 with seven doubles, 17 RBIs, and 16 runs scored, including one home home run. Moses never struck out in 63 plate appearances as a junior.

Trenton wasn’t just the baseball star that he is today; he was also a force for the Hornets on the basketball court, where he earned All-Conference and All-Region honors. He also helped the team go to the Show-Me Showdown in 2006.

During his baseball career at SEMO, Moses won the OVC Player of the Year award in 2011 and 2012. He is the third OVC Player to win multiple Player of the Year awards. He is also a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, which is presented to the nation’s best amateur baseball player. There are thirty others competing.

The Advance native leads NCAA Division 1 baseball in slugging (.802) and on-base percentage (.549). He ranks third in home runs (19) and total bases (158). He is fifth in batting average (.426) and leads the OVC in runs (58), second in RBIs (59), walks (50), and being hit by pitch (17).

Moses was one RBI short of winning the first OVC Triple Crown - leading the league in batting average, home runs, and RBIs - since 1982.

Moses has high chances of being selected in the MLB Draft before we know it - good luck Trent!

BOULDER, Colo. – Six Arkansas State University rugby players have been named to the USA Rugby Men’s Collegiate All-America team for 2012. Overall, 30 All-Americans and 30 Honorable Mentions were chosen in recognition of outstanding play in the 2011-12 Season.

For Arkansas State, first-team members include forward Sean Paterson, and backs Patrick Sullivan and Zac Mizell. Honorable Mention selections include forwards Jake Mizell and Paul Benade along with back Dean Gericke.

The All-Americans are recognized for their on-field performances, a result of their efforts balancing the responsibilities of being a college athlete, and the academicdemands of being a student.

The collegiate All-Americans are also identified as players who can project to higher levels of competition and eventually, the USA Men’s National Team. Currently, of the USA Men’s National Team’s 36-man camp roster, 18 players are current or former All-Americans.

All-Americans, Honorable Mentions, and other notable collegiate players will be invited toattend the MCAA combine-style camp in Houston on June 23 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Out of that camp, the Collegiate All-Americans staff will name a touring side for a tour to Ireland in early August. The Red Wolf rugby team, ranked third, fell short in its quest for a national title, dropping a close 49-42 decision to top-ranked Brigham Young May 19 in the USA Rugby Men’s D1A College Rugby National Championship in Sandy, Utah.

JEFFERSON CITY–The best things in life are free, sometimes. The weekend of June 9 and 10 is one of those times, as the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is suspending fishing-permit requirements for those two days.

MDC designates the weekend after the first Monday in June as Free Fishing Days in Missouri each year. The idea is to encourage people to explore the state’s fishing opportunities without having to purchase permits, trout stamps or trout park daily tags.

Fishing is a lifetime sport, something equally doable whether you are 9 or 90. Free Fishing Days is designed to encourage lapsed anglers and first-time fishers to wet a line at one of Missouri’s more than 300 MDC-owned or managed fishing lakes, ponds or stream accesses. Carefully managed fisheries at these areas produce an abundance of opportunities to catch fish ranging from crappie and catfish to trout and muskellunge.

Normal fishing regulations, such as limits on size and number of fish, remain in effect during Free Fishing Days. Regulations are outlined in the 2012 Summary of Missouri Fishing Regulations, which is available wherever fishing permits are sold, or online.

Special permits may still be required at county, city and private fishing areas. Free Fishing Days exempts anglers from MDC permit and tag fees only, not parking or other park fees.

Public fishing areas are available in every county in Missouri. Many offer disabled-accessible facilities. For more information about places to fish, visit mdc.mo.gov or contact the nearest MDC office.
