
The young women and men in the Dexter Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter participated in an area competition and qualify for district competition.
The Dexter chapter competed in the Area 16 contests, held at Twin Rivers High School. Dexter had several members competing in events at the area competition:
- Nicole Battles placed third in Division One Public Speaking. Division one speaking is for 9th grade FFA members; they must write and present a 3-4 minute speech.
- Chelsey Massey placed first in Division Two Public Speaking. Division Two speaking is for 10th grade FFA members; they must write and present a 4-6 speech.
- Christin Sitzes placed 1st In Advanced Public Speaking. Advanced Speaking is for all FFA members. They must write and present a 6-8 minute speech.
- The FFA Knowledge Team placed 5th. Team members are Kaitlin Eaton, Nicole Battles, Erika McCoy, and Ben Dachs. They took a 100-question test over FFA history and current events.
All these competitors have qualified for District FFA competition on March 31 at Cape Girardeau. In addition, the Dexter FFA chapter scrapbook placed first and will be displayed at the Missouri State FFA convention.

The ladies of the T.S. Hill Middle School volleyball teams will be holding a special scrimmage this Tuesday, March 13 beginning at 6 p.m.
But this scrimmage goes beyond just a game. It involves helping others in the community. The admission to this scrimmage will be a canned food item that will be collected and donated to the Stoddard County Gospel Mission.
The local mission is in need of food to restocks its pantries. Food supplies are low and the need is great. This food drive will help the mission - and local families - in this tie of need.

A tradition at Dexter High School continued as the newest members pledged to uphold the society honor pledge and became members of the Dexter Honor Society.
More than 30 new members accepted and joined with current members in reciting the Honor Society Pledge. Parents, family, faculty and school officials were on hand for the Induction Ceremony held recently oin the DHS Auditorium.
DHS Principal Corey Mouser welcomed those attending the special evening ceremony and then turned the evening’s program to the returning members who were inducted during the 2010-2011 school year.
Honor Society President Tyler Miller introduced the honor code, with members introducting the five keystones of the Honor Society:

- Abby Christian, Character
- Dalton Putnam, Honesty
- Malinda Mayo, Service
The Honor Code states that students pledge themselves to “strive toward higher academic achievement, exemplify good character in both school and community, and retain a standard of integrity while exhibiting leadership and service to the school and community.”
New members were introduced, and lit an individual candle on the auditorium stage and were presented with certificates from Miller, The new members then circled the auditorium to recite the pledge.
