George Watson

George Watson, son of the late George Eura Watson and Ruth Stanley Watson was born on February 1, 1928 in Leachville, Arkansas and departed this life early Friday morning February 3, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Dexter at the age of 84 years.

Mr. Watson was a member of the Bernie Church of Christ for the past seven years. He served as Elder and Treasurer for many years at Parma Church of Christ.  George worked for the ASCS office at Bloomfield, Missouri for approximately 30 years and was Elk Township Tax Collector for 34 years. He also farmed and raised hogs for many years. Mr. Watson was well known and liked by many friends and acquaintances in Stoddard County.

On March 3, 1945 he was united in marriage to Joy Ione Byrd at Paragould, Arkansas.  Mrs. Watson survives of the home in Dexter.

Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Joe Watson and wife Sharlette of Dexter and Marty Watson of Malden, Missouri; by one daughter, Kim Harrington and husband Mark of Lake Mary, Florida; by five grandchildren, Jimmy Wayne Watson of Norman, Oklahoma, Jarrod Watson of Nashville, Tennessee, Kyle Watson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Ryan Harrington and Connor Harrington both of Lake Mary, Florida; also by five great- grandchildren, Adley Jo Watson and Tatum Watson both of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Reese Watson, Rylee Watson and Luke Watson all of Nashville, Tennessee.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Watson; by three brothers, Acie Watson, Charlie Watson, and Paul Watson; and by three sisters Ruth Watson, Dolly Plotts, and Fannie Wiltshire.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 1 until 4 p.m., Sunday February 5, 2011.  Funeral services will then be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2011 at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Stan Dauck officiating. Interment will follow in the Malden Memorial Park Cemetery.

Shirley Taylor

Shirley Taylor, daughter of the late William Lemuel Medlin and Glorvinna ‘Jo’ Thornburgh Medlin was born on December 16, 1928 in Lake City, Arkansas and died on February 2, 2012 at her residence in Dexter at the age of 83.

Mrs. Taylor was a local artist, painting primarily in oil and watercolor, and exhibiting her work at art shows and galleries in Missouri, Arkansas and Kentucky during the 1960’s  and 70’s.  She also gave private painting lessons to local students for three years during that time.  After her graduation from Dexter High School, she worked for three years at the Indiana State Farm Bureau.

On October 9, 1949 she was united in marriage to James “Jim” Mack Taylor at Hornersville, Missouri.  Mr. Taylor preceded her in death on April 29, 1979.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and wife Mary Ann Taylor of Dexter; by one daughter, Kyra Taylor of Dexter and by one grandson, Mack Taylor of Dexter.

Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by one brother, James Lee Medlin.

A grave-side service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2012, in the Dexter cemetery.  Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that all memorials be made to the American Heart Association %3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, Illinois 60674.

Alene Laird Rice, daughter of the late  Mary E. Sparks Gean, was born in Kewanee, Missouri on May 1, 1924, and passed away at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Crystal City, Missouri on February 2, 2012, at the age of 87 years, 9 months and 1 day.

Alene had been a resident of Dexter, Missouri for many years before moving to Fenton several years ago. She currently resided in DeSoto, Missouri. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sikeston, Missouri.

She was first married to LeRoy R. Laird and he preceded her in death in 1987. She married Albert L. Rice in 1988 and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are six nieces. Other relatives and friends also survive.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Logan Purcell and one sister, Juantia Van Buren.

Visitation will be held after 10 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Watkins and Sons Chapel in Dexter, Missouri with David Sparks of Poplar Bluff, Missouri officiating.

Interment will be in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri .

Wendell L. Clinton

Wendell L. Clinton, son of the late Floyd and Cora Beal Clinton, was born in Puxico, Missouri, on September 19, 1940, and passed away at his home in Puxico, Missouri on February 2, 2012, at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 14 days.

He was a lifelong resident of Puxico and graduated from Puxico High School, Class of 1959. He was a 60-year member of the First Baptist Church in Puxico.  He loved to fish, listen to the Cardinals baseball games and being with his family. He worked at Sifford Feed Mill for 26 years. He had also been employed at Truman Green Standard Station and Vern John's Farms.

On August 19, 1961, during Puxico Homecoming, he was married to Linda Ozburn in Puxico, Missouri and they recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Clinton of Puxico; three sons and daughters in law, Buddy Clinton, Gary and Sherri Clinton all of Puxico; Michael and Britni Clinton of Dexter; two daughters and sons in law, Teresa and Terry Adams of Dallas, Texas, Robin and Roger Martin of Puxico; nine grandchildren, Ross Martin, Timothy Adams, Ashley Cupp, Stephen Adams, Danielle Clinton, Lindsey Martin, Caroline Adams, Dylan Clinton and Fiona Fry; one great grandchild, Carson Clinton; by two brothers and spouses, Ronnal & Carol Clinton of Puxico, Douglas and Nita Clinton of Park Hills; fby our sisters and spouses, Melba Bell and Merlyn and Otis Cummings all of Puxico, Shirley and Howard Duer of Jackson, and Phyllis and Ted Pederson of Farwell, Minnesota. Other family and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Young and Bonnie June Clinton.

Visitation will be held after 5 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2012, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Puxico in Puxico with the Rev. Phil Bray of Macon, Missouri officiating.

Interment will be in Duck Creek Cemetery near Puxico with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

Willyne Jones, daughter of the late Wilfred and Wilma Ann Strong Bowen, was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 19, 1933, and passed away at the Golden Living Center in Bloomfield, Missouri on January 27, 2012, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 8 days.

Willeen was a resident of Bloomfield, Missouri. She was raised in Michigan where she went to L.P.N. Nursing School and later lived in Sikeston. She was a member of the Hill's General Baptist Church in Bloomfield. She had worked as an L.P.N. at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston and had worked in the nursing field for 30 years.

Surviving are one son, Jack Beckwith of Daytona Beach, Florida; three daughters, Julie Ann Lewis and Karen Ryan both of Bloomfield and, Janeen Britt of Bell City; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Other relatives and friends also survive.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2012,  at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2012,at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter.

Interment will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
