SEMO Shows Slight Uptick In Spring Enrollment

CAPE GIRARDEAU - Southeast Missouri State University showed a slight increase in enrollment on the first day of the spring semester in 2011.

According to the university, a head count taken Tuesday showed total first-day spring semester enrollment rose 0.5 percent from the same time last year. The combined undergraduate and graduate student head count is 10,154, up from 10,101 on the first day of the spring semester last year.

Equivalency of combined full-time undergraduate and graduate students rose 2.1 percent from a year ago, meaning students are increasing the number of credit hours they are taking, according to the university.

Dr. Debbie Below, associate vice president for enrollment management and director of admissions, said that the transfer student head count is 316, nearly the same as 2011's figure of 317. The head count for international students is 624, up from 565 at this time last year.

The university will release an official census report in four weeks.

Classes at Southeast began Jan. 17.
