Bearcats Prepare for Homecoming 2011

Ten young women have been nominated by five fall sports teams to be the 2011 Fall Homecoming Queen. The candidates will be presented and the queen crowned Friday evening at 6:30 p.m., during pre-game festivities before the Bearcat vs.  Caruthersville Tigers football game.

The ten young ladies include:

• Bethany Christian – Bethany is the daughter of Steve and Cheryl Christian and is a junior. Bethany is a member of the Varsity Cheerleading squad, the Dance Team, Future Teachers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the DHS Student Council and Future Business Leaders of America. The Varsity Football Cheerleading team nominated Bethany.
• Morgan Cliff – Morgan is the daughter of Steve and Cherie Cliff and is a sophomore.  Morgan is a member of the Varsity Cheerleading team, the Dance Team, the Track Team, DHS Student Council, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Chamber Choir and the Dexter Show Choir. The Bearcat football team nominated Morgan.
• Kelsey Frederick – Kelsey is the daughter of Mary McFall and Michael Frederick and is a junior. Kelsey is a member of the Varsity Football Cheerleading squad, the DHS Student Council, Future Teachers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Chamber Choir and the Dexter Show Choir. The Varsity Football Cheerleading team nominated Kelsey.
• Katie Justice – Katie is the daughter of Kevin and Cindy Justice and is a sophomore. Katie is a member of the DHS Cross Country team. Katie was nominated by the Cross County Team.
• Jessica Lindsey – Jessica is the daughter of Elaina Lindsey and Kevin Lindsey and is a freshman. Jessica is a member of the Varsity Volleyball team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, and the Rowdy Gals.  The Bearcat football team nominated Jessica.
• Malinda Mayo – Malinda is the daughter of Roger and Malisa Mayo and is a senior. Malinda is a member of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Future Teachers of America, is the president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, member of the Dexter Honor Society, the Speech and Debate team, the Cross County team. Chamber Choir and the Dexter Show Choir. Malinda was nominated by the Cross County Team.
• Erika Mouser – Erika is the daughter of Eric and Pam Mouser and is a senior. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Teachers of America, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, DECA, Varsity Volleyball team, and the Dexter Honor Society. The Volleyball team nominated Erika.
• Jessica Snider – Jessica is the daughter of Jeff and Debbie Snider and is a senior. Jessica is a member of the Tennis team, Dance team, Future Farmers of America, Future Teachers of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, DHS Student Council, Dexter Honor Society, and is the Senior Class president. The Tennis Team nominated Jessica.
• Kendra Stevenson – Kendra is the daughter of Keith and Kay Stevenson and is a sophomore. Kendra is a member of the tennis team, the softball team, the DHS Marching Bearcat Band, Jazz Cats, DHS Student Council, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The Tennis Team nominated Kendra.
• Lauren Ward – Lauren is the daughter of David and Joy Ward and is a senior.  Lauren is a member of the Varsity Volleyball team, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Future Teachers of America, the Dexter Honor Society, the Rowdy Gals, and the DHS Student Council. The Varsity Volleyball team nominated Lauren.

These girls are tough, and they mean business. And they mean to fight hard against a tough opponent.

For the first time ever, the Dexter High School Volleyball teams are changing from red to pink all in an effort to raise awareness about breast cancer and raise funds for area families fight the disease.

The Lady Bearcats will don special pink uniforms on Thursday, Oct. 7 when they take on the Poplar Bluff Mules in a regularly schedule match. To show solidarity and to join together to fight breast cancer, the visiting Mules will also be wearing their “dig pink” jerseys.

"We are thrilled to host our first Dig Pink event at DHS to benefit area families and to raise awareness about breast cancer," volleyball coach Lauren Hutchcraft said. "We have enjoyed planning the event and are excited about the game. And we are proud that Poplar Bluff will be joining in the effort and wearing the "pink" uniforms.  We are coming together for a common cause despite our rivalry. We look forward to a great match and the opportunity to raise awareness and funds to help fight breast cancer."

Stacy Blocker is helping organize the event, and she says the evening is about more than just a great volleyball match between two great high school teams.

“We will have a silent auction before the game, with lots of things that have been donated by local businesses,” said Blocker. ”We’ll have a 50-50 drawing, there will be wall volleyballs for sale and The Ben Kruse 18 FORE LifeFoundation will have t-shirts on sale.”

Pre-game activities, including the Silent Auction, will begin at 5 p.m., and the junior varsity match is set to begin at 6 p.m. in the Bearcat Event Center.

A number of choral music students at Dexter High School have achieved top All-District honors.

Following auditions last weekend in Cape Girardeau, DHS students were named to All-District Choirs. To achieve All-District Choir honors the students auditioned, performing a prepared audition selection as well as being rated on sight-reading and tonal memory for a panel of judges. The Dexter students are under the direction of Jamie Supuvado.

Hundreds of students from high schools from throughout Southeast Missouri participated in the auditions.  Auditions were held at Cape Central High School .

All-District Choir students will gather again later this fall for a day of workshops with guest clinicians followed by a concert feature three choirs – the senior choir with 11^th & 12^th grade students, a choir with 9^th & 10^th grade students, and a Junior High All-District Choir with members selected by each individual choir director.

Students from Dexter selected include:

• 9^th & 10^th Grade: Christin Sitzes, Riley Rickman, Rachel Putnam, Shelby Gathings, Emily Long, Michaela Lesley, Reale Cook, Ashley Long, Sarah Richardson, Kyle Kent, Jackson Hubbard, Brooks Propst, Jacob Murdock, Zachary Sims and Alex Morgan.
• 11^th & 12^th Grade: Kaitline Viers, Malinda Mayo, Zach Comstock, Jason Guthrie, Dalton Putnam and Logan Quartermous.
