Redhawks Set to Enter First Meeting with Big Ten Opponent

Southeast will face a Big Ten Conference opponent for the first time when it visits Purdue Saturday. The Redhawks are 1-15 all-time vs. Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly I-A) opponents.

Welcome Back
Tony Samuel spent one year as the defensive ends coach at Purdue (2005) before accepting the head coaching job at Southeast. While at Purdue, Samuel coached Rob Ninkovich, the Boilermakers Most Valuable Player and Second-Team All-Big Ten defensive end.

OVC vs. Big Ten
The Ohio Valley Conference is 0-11 all-time against Big Ten Conference opponents. OVC teams are also a combined 18-144-1 against FBS (formerly Div. I-A) teams.

QB Matt Schelible is 281 yards away from reaching 2,000 rushing yards in his career. Scheible currently ranks eighth among Southeast's all-time career rushing leaders with 1,719 yards. Only six players have run for over 2,000 yards in their Redhawk careers.

Another Milestone in Reach
Senior LB Philip Klaproth (Poplar Bluff, Mo.) needs only 13 tackles to get 200 in his Southeast career. Klaproth has recorded at least one tackle in all 36 of his career games. A total of 20 players have recorded 200 tackles during their respective Redhawk football tenures dating back to when official statistics were first recorded at Southeast in 1980.

Bye, Bye

The Redhawks are 1-3 in games following their bye week under head coach Tony Samuel. Southeast beat Samford in 2006, and lost to Eastern Kentucky in 2007, Eastern Illinois in 2008 and Tennessee Tech in 2009.
