Leo Tibbs, son of the late James W. Tibbs and Mary C. Hellums Tibbs was born on January 20, 1919 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri and departed this life on September 8, 2011 at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter, Missouri at the age of 92 years.
Mr. Tibbs was the former owner and operator of Hickory House Restaurant for many years in Dexter, veteran of the United States Army, and a resident of Dexter.
On November 9, 1968 he was united in marriage to Christine Leathers in Dexter, Missouri. Mrs. Tibbs preceded him in death on December 15, 2007.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Goodman of Dexter; one brother, John Tibbs of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; by one sister, Lorene Scott of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one granddaughter, Lori Moore of Dexter; by one great-grandson, Heath Moore of Dexter; and by two great-great-grandchildren, Halie Moore and Keagan Moore.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Leo Tibbs; one daughter, Ruby Elaine Hurley; by three brothers, Ralph Tibbs, Evert Tibbs, and Richard Tibbs; and by one sister, Grace May Tibbs.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday, September 12, 2011, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday September 13, 2011 at 1 p.m., at the Missouri StateVeterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating. Interment will follow with full Military Honors.
