Velda Irvin

Velda "Rinky" Irvin, daughter of the late Rube and Lora Lewis Duncan, was born in Buffington, Missouri on January 22, 1932, and passed away at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri on June 28, 2011, at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 6 days.

She had lived in Morehouse, Missouri most of her life and was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Sikeston. She had retired from National Lock in Sikeston and then worked for 13 years at the Standard Democrat Newspaper in Sikeston.

On February 3, 1957, she was married to Robert L. Irvin in Holly Springs, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1985.

Surviving are two sons, Donnie Vent of Jackson, Tennessee, Jeffery Vent of Sikeston, Missouri; two daughters, Sherri Kerr of Wildwood, Missouri, Gayle Childs of Morehouse, Missouri; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Glyn Duncan of Long Beach, California. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters in infancy.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2011, at 11 a.m., in the Essex Cemetery in Essex, Missouri.

Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery in Essex, Missouri with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter, Missouri in charge of arrangements.
