As the 7th Seed in the tournament, the young Bearcats needed to be on top of their game. But things started difficultly for the 'Cat in the first two innings as the Bulldogs staged an offensive attack. The Bulldog's bats were on fire and brought about a 10 to 0 lead by the end of the 2nd inning. With a slow start in the field and at the plate - the Bearcats had dug a hole that was hard to overcome.
"We just didn't play that well during the first innings," said Coach Aaron Pixley. "But after that, we woke up and played competitive the rest of the game. You just can't spot a good team like Sikeston 10 runs and expect to win."
The Bearcats only two hits were supplied by Joe Greer and Wyatt Kiger. The slow start set aside, the Bearcats actually played good defense and pitched well after the 2nd inning. The 'Cats were unable to overcome the slow start and lost the game to the #2 seed Sikeston Bulldogs by a score of 13 to 5.
The Junior Varsity Bearcats ended their season with a record of 6 wins and 6 losses on the season.
Brosely MO -- The Varsity Bearcats were in action on Thursday at Twin Rivers High School against the Royals. Again, a slow start allowed Twin Rivers to jump out to a 5 to 1 lead early in the game. Pitcher Owen Flowers was able to get control over the game and had a good afternoon from the mound.
Garrett Stockton was on the mound for the Royals and just wouldn't let the Bearcats get their offensive machine started. Twin Rivers defeated the Bearcats by a score of 7 to 3.
There were a few Bearcat highlights from the game as Chase Young continued his great performance by adding 2 hits on 3 trips to the plate and Senior Bryn Hester was also 2 for 3 with a home-run. Josh Sifford also contributed one hit during the game.
This loss takes the Dexter to 7-10 on the season. Weather permitting, the Bearcats will host the Portageville Bulldogs in non-league action on Monday, May 9th in Dexter.
