In Memory of Lawrence Geary

Lawrence Ray Geary of Aquilla, son of the late Jesse and Anita Pauline Polley Geary, was born in Salcedo, Missouri on June 5, 1938, and passed away at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on February 24, 2017, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 19 days.

Mr. Geary had lived in the Salcedo and Morehouse areas until moving to Aquilla many years ago. He had owned and operated Geary Gas & Tire in Aquilla for many years.

On June 3, 1979, he married Judy S. Furtwangler Atwill in Portageville, Missouri.

Surviving are his wife, Judy Geary of Aquilla; one daughter and husband, Rayla & Ray Gene Tackett of Dexter; step-son & wife, Richard & Amanda Atwell of Blytheville, Arkansas; step-daughter & husband, Andrea & Ryan Underwood of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Geary & children of Aquilla; granddaughters, Jessica Rickman & daughters of Dexter, Samantha Geary of Columbia, Melissa Geary & sons of Dexter; and grandson, Michael Tacket of Zalma. Many other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two sons, John L. Geary & Sammy “Bo” Geary, and one brother, Lee Geary.

Friends may call on Sunday, February 26, 2017, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Dwight Hensley of Bloomfield, Missouri officiating.

Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri, with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in charge of all the arrangements.

In Memory of Ovey Haynes

Ovey Lee Haynes was born on November 15, 1921. She departed this life on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Gideon Care Center in Gideon, Missouri at the age of 95 years 3 months and 7 days.

Ovey Lee haynes was a homemaker. She attended the Malden Pentecostal Church. Ovey was united in marriage to Reverend Nowlin Adrian Haynes on December 7, 1938 in Osceola, Arkansas.

He preceded her in death on Sunday, September 21, 2014.

Her survivors include a son Edwin Haynes & his wife, Barbara of Malden, grandchildren: Bruce Haynes & wife, Zoe Ann of Branson, Scott Haynes of Ellsinore, and Shawn Haynes of Malden, six great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son: Jerry Haynes, daughter-in-law: Merlene Haynes, brother: Jack Dillard and 2 sisters: Myrtle Dillard and Elmara Shull.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 6-8 P.M. at the United Pentecostal Church in Malden.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at the United Pentecostal Church in Malden with Reverend Bobby Moore & Reverend Donnie Fowler officiating.

Interment will be in the Elder Cemetery in Campbell, MO.

In Memory of Dora May

Dora May, daughter of the late John Richard Myers and Ruby Burke Myers, was born on July 6, 1936 in Dexter, Missouri and departed this life on February 20, 2017 at Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 80.

Mrs. May retired from Elders Manufacturing in Dexter as a supervisor after forty-eight years of service.

She was united in marriage to Robert Melvin May on January 29, 1955 in Dexter, Missouri.  Robert preceded her in death on July 27, 1999.

Her survivors include, two sons, Karl May and Kevin May both of Dexter; one daughter, Robin Wells (Eugene) of Benton; by two brothers, Jimmy Dale Myers and Charles Leroy Myers (Barbara) both of Dexter; two sisters, Ruth Morgan of Dexter and Carolyn Sue Davis of Bloomfield; by two sister-in-laws, Carol Myers and Linda Myers both of Dexter; by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in by two brothers, John Richard Myers and Marion “Bud” Myers.

Friends may call at the Rainey Mathis Funeral Home on February 24, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. 

Funeral services will be conducted in Rainey Mathis Funeral Chapel on February 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Kenneth Biggs officiating. 

Interment will follow at the Dexter Cemetery.

In Memory of Ruth McBride

Ruth McBride, daughter of the late William Prentiss Roberts and Letha Mofield Roberts, was born on June 12, 1928 in Dexter and departed this life on February 19, 2017 at the Southeast Health of Stoddard County at the age of 88.

Mrs. McBride was an insurance adjuster for All State, and was a resident of Dexter.

On January 20, 1953, she was united in marriage to Bob McBride in Piggott, Arkansas.  Mr. McBride preceded her in death on February 4, 1997.

She is survived by two sons, Bob McBride of Waukegan, Illinois and Gary and his wife Brenda McBride of Waukegan, Illinois; by one daughter, Bonnie and her husband Roy Stafford of Dexter; by one brother, Walter Roberts of St. Louis; by one sister, Fleecie Boone of Flint, Michigan; by nine grandchildren, Ryan McBride, Mike McBride, Kate Johnson, Tiffany McBride, Taylor McBride, Molly Mooty, Amy McBride, Tony Stafford and Kevin Stafford;  by 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by six brothers, Bob Roberts, James Roberts, Doyle Roberts, William Roberts, Marvin Roberts and Dave Roberts and by one sister, Belva Arnold.

Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. 

Interment will be conducted at a later date in Hagy Cemetery.

In Memory of Jim Gaines

Jim Alvis Gaines, son of the late Alvis Freeman Gaines and Lula Crain Gaines, was born on July 2, 1943 at Pontiac Michigan and departed this life on February 19, 2017 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri at the age of 73.

Mr. Gaines was a member of the Southwest Church of The Nazarene.  He was a former brick mason working in construction. His interests included, pro stock, muscle cars, and drag racing at Sikeston.  He loved music and taught himself to play the guitar.

He met his wife, Ruth Mason, at Elder’s Manufacturing in Dexter.  They were united in marriage on January 31, 1964 at Dexter, Missouri.  Ruth survives of the home.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, James Kevin Gaines of Dexter, Missouri, Kenny Wayne Gaines (Brenda) of Grand Island, Nebraska; by one daughter, Debbie Speer (Norm); by one brother, Gary Lee Gaines of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; by one sister, Sue Gaines Palmet of Georgia; by four grandchildren, Amanda and Shane Speer, Jada and Lily Grace Gaines.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Olivia Jane Gaines.

Friends may call at the Rainey Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. 

Funeral Services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Rainey Mathis Funeral Chapel at 1:00 PM with Ron King officiating. 

Interment will follow at the Dexter Cemetery.
