Roger Lee Smith passed away May 31, 2024, at his home in Bernie. He was 71.

Born February 11, 1953, in Elgin Illinois, he was the son of Wanda Stephens Smith and the late Wendell Smith.

On June 21, 1974, in Bernie, he was married to Edna Hickson. They had one son, Jared Lee Smith.

Roger was employed by the City of Bernie as a state-certified water/wastewater operator. He also worked many years as an announcer at the Sikeston Drag Strip. After retirement in 2015, Roger was employed by Bud Shell Ford in Dexter.

Roger was a member of First Baptist Church in Bernie.

Survivors include his mother, Wanda Smith, of Bernie; Wife, Edna Smith, of Bernie; one son, Jared Smith, and daughter-in-law, Lonnia Smith, of Jackson; and a sister, Kathi Masters, and husband Clifford Masters, of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Also by other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wendell Smith.

A Celebration of life for Roger will be held at First Baptist Church in Bernie, Missouri on Saturday, June 15, 2024 with Service starting at 1:00 P.M. followed by a time of sharing until 3:00 P.M. Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie is assisting with arrangements.
