WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches.

WHERE...Portions of southeast Missouri.

WHEN...Until 6 PM CST Thursday.

IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Stoddard County, MO - The National Weather Service in Paducah, KY has issued a WINTER STORM WARNING, total snow accumulations 6 to 12 inches of snow.

Affected Areas

All of southwest Indiana, southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and western Kentucky

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM CST TUESDAY...

WHAT...Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations 6 to 12 inches.

WHERE...All of southwest Indiana, southeast Missouri, southern Illinois and western Kentucky.

WHEN...Tonight through Monday evening. Heaviest snow will be Monday.

IMPACTS...Travel conditions will become extremely dangerous tonight and Monday. Commutes Monday morning, Monday evening, and Tuesday morning will be impacted.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...North winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to 20 mph will likely cause blowing and drifting of snow. It will remain bitterly cold. Another storm is taking aim on the area later Wednesday through Thursday. As a result, impacts may last through the end of the work week.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. It will be dangerous to be stranded for any length of time due to the bitterly cold conditions.

.A major winter storm will affect the area tonight through Monday. Significant accumulations of snow, along with blowing snow and bitter cold will make for extremely dangerous travel conditions. Have your affairs in order before the end of the evening. This is not the only storm we will be dealing with this week. A second significant winter storm may affect the area sometime later Wednesday into Thursday.

.Stoddard County, MO - The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning for Stoddard County.

..ICE STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 PM CST THURSDAY...

WHAT...Significant icing expected. Total ice accumulations of two tenths to a half inch possible with the highest amounts along the southern portions of the Kentucky Pennyrile and Purchase Area. Additionally, up to a quarter inch of sleet is possible Thursday.

WHERE...Along and south of a line extending from Doniphan, Missouri, northeastward to Eddyville, Illinois, then eastward to Calhoun, Kentucky.

WHEN...From midnight tonight to 6 PM CST Thursday with most of the precipitation occurring Wednesday night through Thursday.

IMPACTS...Power outages and tree damage are possible due to the ice. Hazardous travel conditions are expected and could impact the morning or evening commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS..

Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Prepare for possible power outages. Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.

A significant wintry precipitation event is expected to return across the Quad State later tonight and persist through Thursday. At this time, significant and dangerous ice accumulations are expected by Thursday morning, especially over parts of west Kentucky, the southern tip of Illinois, and the Delta region of southeast Missouri. However, notable ice accumulation is possible over the remainder of southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and southwest Indiana.

A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain will affect areas primarily north of a Poplar Bluff to Vienna Illinois to Owensboro Kentucky line overnight. A more prolonged period of wintry precipitation is expected from late Tuesday night through Thursday morning, with potentially significant ice accumulations possible.

Stoddard County, MO - The National Weather Service in Paducah, KY has issued a Special Weather Statement.

Description

...Light wintry precipitation expected tonight...

Across portions of southern Missouri southeast of a Cape Girardeau to Poplar Bluff line, far southern Illinois south of Route 13, and west Kentucky, expect patchy light rain and sleet this evening to change to a mix of light snow, sleet, and freezing rain overnight.

Significant accumulations are not expected, but slippery conditions may develop on lesser traveled roads and elevated or untreated surfaces.

More significant amounts of wintry precipitation are expected to the north, such as southwest Indiana, the Marion Carbondale area, and the Ozark foothills of southeast Missouri.

Use extra caution when traveling overnight and during the early morning commute.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Flood Advisory for Poor Drainage Areas for... Alexander County in southern Illinois... Pulaski County in southern Illinois... Northwestern Ballard County in western Kentucky... West Central Carlisle County in western Kentucky... Southern Bollinger County in southeastern Missouri... Butler County in southeastern Missouri... Southern Cape Girardeau County in southeastern Missouri... Mississippi County in southeastern Missouri... Northwestern New Madrid County in southeastern Missouri... Ripley County in southeastern Missouri... Scott County in southeastern Missouri... Stoddard County in southeastern Missouri... Wayne County in southeastern Missouri...

Until 300 PM CST.

At 1011 AM CST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Overflowing poor drainage areas will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include... Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, Sikeston, Dexter, Charleston, Scott City, East Prairie, Chaffee, Cairo, Doniphan, and Miner.

Additional rainfall of 1 inch is expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
