PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

Special Weather Statement Issued for Stoddard County - Heat Indexes Near 100

Stoddard County, MO - The National Weather Service in Paducah, KY has issued a Special Weather Statement for Stoddard County.

...HEAT INDICES OF 100 TO 105 AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON...

High temperatures in the lower half of the 90s will combine with high humidity levels to produce heat indices from around 100 to near 105 this afternoon. A few locations may even flirt with 100 degrees before we reach the noon hour. Some relief will come to a few areas as a few isolated to scattered thunderstorms develop.

If you are active outdoors, take breaks, and drink plenty of non alcoholic fluids. Those involved with children should always check the back seat before leaving their vehicle.

Flash Flood Watch Issued Through Wednesday Morning

...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, southwest Indiana and western Kentucky.

Through Wednesday morning.

1 to 3 inches of rainfall is likely with locally higher amounts possible.

Heavy rainfall will result in flooding of low lying or poor drainage areas, and ultimately dangerous flash flooding on smaller creeks, streams and low water crossings. Significant rises on larger streams and rivers will also be possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR * A PORTION OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI, INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES, BOLLINGER, BUTLER, CARTER, RIPLEY, STODDARD, AND WAYNE MO.

* FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING.

* THE REMNANTS OF TROPICAL STORM CRISTOBAL MAY RESULT IN 2 OR MORE INCHES OF RAINFALL IN SOME AREAS. THE HIGHEST RISK AREA APPEARS TO BE ALONG AND WEST OF HIGHWAY 67, AND ESPECIALLY CARTER AND RIPLEY COUNTIES.

* FLASH FLOODING OF SMALL STREAMS AND RIVERS IS POSSIBLE. LOW WATER CROSSINGS MAY FLOOD WITH LITTLE TO NO WARNING. TRAVELERS IN THE FLASH FLOOD WATCH AREA SHOULD BE ALERT FOR FLOODED ROADS.

TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN IF YOU ENCOUNTER A FLOODED ROAD.
