Dexter, Missouri -  With cancer, early detection is key to successful treatment. Women who put their trust in Imaging services at Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County may now be screened using Hologic 3D MammographyTM technology, proven superior clinically to analog and 2D mammography. The new system replaces analog mammography at Southeast Health Center of Stoddard County.

According to Radiology Supervisor Chris Newberry, benefits of the 3D technology include exceptionally sharp images, seamless transition between imaging modes, ergonomic design for patient comfort, FDA approved as superior for women with dense breasts, proven to reduce callbacks for additional imaging by up to 40 percent and low radiation dose to patients. This technology also is proven to detect 20 to 65 percent more invasive breast cancers compared to 2D alone, for an average increase of 41 percent.

Newberry noted that “unlike the 2D mammography systems that miss 20 percent of breast cancers, tomosynthesis makes tumors of less than 1 centimeter visible, which results in a cure rate of 98 percent. This technology also produces three dimensional images which are intended to reveal the inner architecture of the breast, free from the distortion typically caused by tissue shadowing or density.
