They will all join in the celebration of “Swinging Through The Decades,” presented by the Chancel Choir at Dexter’s First United Methodist Church on Friday evening, Aug. 5. The dinner theater experience will feature a wonderful meal and musical entertainment.
“We will have great food, great fun and friendship, and great music,” Music Director MaryRuth Boone said. “This will be an evening with a great variety of music that is sure to bring back fond memories for everyone!”
Boone said the choir would perform a wide variety of tunes – from old-fashioned rock and ’roll to newer classics - with quite a few surprises thrown in. In addition, the evening will feature a variety of soloists and ensembles from the choir with the music of Frank Sinatra, Carly Simon, Art Garfunkel, Abba and more.
The Melodic Methodist Men will be featured in a song-and-dance routine, and the Sisters of Song will present their own wacky version of a Whoopie classic.
“The evening will close with a cowboy tune that will bring fond memories to many Baby Boomers and a chuckle to everyone,” Boone said.
The meal will be prepared by the Kitchen Ladies and will feature smoked pork loin, garlic smashed potatoes, green beans almondine, a summer salad, and fresh, homemade angel food cake with fruit topping.
All proceeds of the evening will be used by the choir to support on-going ministries in the church.
The dinner theater experience will kick off at 6 p.m. in Wesley Hall on the FUMC campus. Tickets are $18 per person and are to be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be available at the door.
To purchase a ticket or for additional information, contact by Aug. 3 the church at 573-624-3344 or Boone at 573-820-3516.
