
Dexter, Missouri - Tropical Sno SEMO located at 1503 West Business 60 in Dexter held a fundraiser for Shawn Slavings on Sunday, August 7th.
Shawn is currently battling an infectious abscess located within his brain. He has also tested positive for a fungal infection, meningitis, and a tick-borne illness. Due to these illnesses he is unable to work at the present time. His future medical stays and expenses are undetermined at this time, but his fight is far from over.
On Sunday evening Tropical Sno raised $1,025 for Shawn and his family. 100% of the proceeds were donated.
Shawn, his wife, and children greatly appreciate all the community game in support of their recent setback in life. Shawn is a strong young man and will beat his illness, but it helps to have community support to ease the burden.

They serve lunch from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. and the cost is $3.50 for seniors and $5.00 for non-seniors.

Friday, August 12th - cheeseburger, BBQ pork sandwich, Brussel sprouts, potato salad, bun, and cookie.

Dexter, Missouri - The entire city of Dexter will be donning the blue on Thursday, August 4th, to honor local law enforcement officers, including Dexter Police and Stoddard County Sheriff's Department and the local Missouri Highway Patrol.
Vision of Hope Church near Essex officially thanked local officers in style with their own “Back the Blue” treats on Tuesday, August 2, 2016.
Children of the church presented numerous goodies to the Dexter Police Department to thank them for their service. These goodies included sodas, donated by Wal-Mart, along with pizza, homemade cookies, brownies and other treats.

Dexter, Missouri - The Stoddard County Senior Center in Dexter will host a Catfish Dinner with live entertainment by gospel trio, Southern Tradition.
The event will take place on Friday, August 5th beginning at 10:30 a.m. The cost of the dinner is $3.50 for seniors and $5.00 for the general public. Everyone is invited to attend this event and enjoy the wonderful music.
After dinner, the Southern Tradition Trio will perform at Central Gardens at 2:00 p.m.
"Southern Tradition is a group dedicated to preserving the heritage of Southern Gospel music and continuing to spread the Gospel to a dying world through traditional music. We trust that God will bless our efforts just as He did those of the pioneers of Gospel Music whom we strive to honor."
With over 150 years of combined experience in Southern Gospel music, Southern Tradition presents a unique sound few groups, if any, can follow.

Dexter, Missouri - Alex Ogburn, Saint Francis Vice President of Ambulatory Services addressed a huge crowd Friday afternoon prior to the official Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony and Open House at the new Saint Francis Health Center in Dexter.
More than 300 people attended the open house. Saint Francis staff members greeted and provided tours throughout the building including the main attraction, the Fitness Plus center.
The first floor offers a lap pool for aquatic therapy and swim lessons. There is also a room to have live video exercise classes. A personal trainer can help you with all your exercise needs. There are three fitness areas with state-of-the-art equipment , an indoor track that if you go around 12 times equals one mile, physical therapy and massage service, beautiful locker room with private showers, a whirlpool, and sauna room.
Ogburn thanked everyone for attending the Open House, especially the Stoddard County first responders in attendance. He noted that Saint Francis was here to provide the area "a ministry of healing and wellness" for the community.
"Our presence here is to provide excellent primary care when you need it," stated Ogburn.
Ogburn introduced Dr. Christopher Montgomery, an urgent and primary care family physician from Poplar Bluff.
"We are extremely happy to be in this fantastic facility. We have been welcomed with open arms in Dexter," stated Montgomery. "You have a wonderful group of people in this community and we are excited to be here."
