Rhythm Steppers Earn 5th Consecutive First Place Win!
Dexter, Missouri - The Puxico High School Rhythm Steppers Band took First Place at the 87th Stoddard County Fair Parade.

The parade was held on Tuesday, September 22nd down Stoddard Street.  This marks the 5th consecutive year that the Puxico Marching Band has earned the top spot among all the bands.

Second place went to the Bloomfield Marching Wildcats.  Third place went to the Bernie Marching Band.

Bloomfield Area Nutrition Center's Weekly Menu

Bloomfield, Missouri - The Bloomfield Area Nutrition Center (BANC) will have their weekly lunch at 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015.

The menu will be Country Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes with Gravy, Corn, Salad and Dessert!

BANC is a non-for-profit organization that provides services to seniors of Bloomfield. They are currently providing meals every Wednesday at a cost of $4.00 for ages 60 and above.  Not 60 yet, that’s OK too.  Meals for 59 and younger are also available for a cost of $6.00.

If you would like to donate your time or money to the Bloomfield Area Nutrition Center please contact them at (573) 895-2142.  The center is located at 609 N. Delaware St.

Monday, September 21st - Polish sausage, breaded beef fritter, baked potato, cabbage, whole grain bread and pears.

Tuesday, September 22nd - Pancakes, sausage, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, and cinnamon roll.

Wednesday, September 23rd - Chicken and dumplings, ham, green beans, yams, cornbread, and gooey butter cake.

Thursday, September 24th - Beef and noodles, barbecue leg quarters, corn, coleslaw, whole grain bread and pineapples.

Friday, September 25th - Fish sandwich, Sloppy Joe, potato wedges, baked beans, bun and banana pudding.

Danielle Wilhite Is PAT September Student of the Month

Bernie, Missouri - The Parents as Teachers in Bernie has selected Danielle Wilhite as Student of the Month for September.

Dani is three years old and her guardians are Sandy and Tim Summers.

Some of Dani's favorite things to do are playing on the piano and singing, going to church, sorting things, beading, and listening to stories from the books Mrs. McGarity brings to her.

Sandy says, "Dani looks forward to our Parents as Teachers visits and loves all the extra attention!"

History

In 1981, Missouri pioneered the concept of helping parents embrace their important role as their child’s first and best teacher. Today, Parents as Teachers continues to equip early childhood organizations and professionals with information and tools that are relevant—and widely applicable—to today’s parents, families and children.


The Parents as Teachers leadership team and Board of Directors is engaged in a three-year strategic plan, which positions the organization as a valued partner to support the organizations and professionals who serve families and children, especially those most vulnerable.


The concept for Parents as Teachers was developed in the 1970s when Missouri educators noted that children were beginning kindergarten with varying levels of school readiness. Research showed that greater parent involvement is a critical link in the child's development of learning skills, including reading and writing.


Early childhood professionals suggested that a program to provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues, and parent education to help parents understand their role in encouraging their child's development from the beginning could help improve school readiness and parent involvement.

With funding from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and The Danforth Foundation, Parents as Teachers began in 1981 in Missouri as a pilot project for first-time parents of newborns. Recognizing the program's benefits and cost effectiveness, the Missouri legislature provided state funding in 1985 to implement Parents as Teachers programs in all Missouri school districts. Since 1985, Parents as Teachers has expanded to all 50 states and six other countries.

Addison Murphy is September PAT Student of the Month
Bernie, Missouri - Parents as Teachers in Bernie have selected Addison Blair Murphy as Student of the Month for September. 

Addison is the daughter of Dylan Murphy and Sami Palmer.

Addison is 17 months old and loves to go to Wal-Mart with her mommy.  She also enjoys reading books, coloring, singing, dancing, and playing outside.

​During the ​family's PAT​ visits, Addison enjoys participating in the fun activities with her mother and Mrs. Casey and ​also ​receiving a new book.
