By Erin Lauters

Poplar Bluff, Missouri-
A few of Mrs. Mary Ruth Boone's senior piano students took part in a recital on June 19, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at a local Poplar Bluff Methodist Church.

Mrs. Boone, a retired choir director from Dexter, Missouri, has given piano lessons for many years. Three of her students who have just graduated high school are putting on a senior recital full of singing and piano playing.

Dana Ziomek, 18 of Poplar Bluff has been receiving lessons from Mrs. Boone since her junior year of high school. She has had great success in all of her musical endeavors. While her love of piano started a great deal of time before starting lessons with Mrs. Boone, Dana has grown musically from her lessons and hours dedicated to practicing. Dana played Sonata in D, movement 1; Sonata in Ab Op.110, movement 1; The Entertainer; Étude Op. 25, #1; Prelude in G Minor Op. 23; and accompanied Brooks and Coulton's duet of Amazing Grace.

Coulton Becker, 18 of Greenville has been receiving lessons from Mrs. Boone since his freshman year of high school. Coulton has taken both vocal and piano lessons. Since taking lessons from Mrs. Boone, Coulton has made a "1" rating at state solo and ensemble contest on vocal solos, which is the highest rating one can receive. He also made the All-State choir two years in a row. Coulton's lessons with Mrs. Boone as well as the time he spent practicing has made him musically successful. Coulton played Widmung, Ballade Op. 118 #3; A Simple Song; Vagabond; I Bought Me A Cat; Rapsodie; Solace; and Toccata.

Brooks Propst, 18 of Dexter has been receiving lessons from Mrs. Boone since second grade. He has taken both vocal and piano lessons. He has received one "1" for a vocal solo, and one "1" for a trombone solo. Brooks has been in the All-District choir for all six years of his singing career. Brooks played Fidelity; Sonata in D, movement 3 Rondo; Morceau Symphony; Marchin' On Up; My Heart's In The Highlands; Music of the Night; and Polichinelle.

Brooks and Coulton sang both Amazing Grace and Cindy as a duet.

Conservation Agent Mark Reed Hosts Heroes of the Wild
Dexter, Missouri - More than 100 children and adults attended the Keller Public Library summer reading program, "Every Hero Has a Story."  This week featured Mark Read, Stoddard County Conservation Agent, with his many hides, a few skulls of animals native to Missouri and even a good ole green rubber snake.

He talked with the youngsters about each animal's habitat and what they like to eat.  The children seemed to be quite knowledgeable as they raised their hands to answer his various questions.  He also went over the do's and don'ts of when you see a wild animal outdoors.  Some can be very dangerous!

"Never take a wild animal and try to make a pet!"

On Wednesday, July 15th at 11:00 a.m. the final summer reading program will be "Crafts and Ice Cream Sundaes!"  YUM!  Sounds like a great program!  Everyone come out and enjoy!  School will begin very soon for the older children!
