Paintin' the Bearcat - An Annual Tradition

Paintin' the Bearcat - An Annual Tradition

Written by

Dexter, Missouri – Under beautiful blue skies and a little warmth from the sun the annual painting of the Bearcat commenced this week on the field of the Charles Bland Stadium

Bearcat Booster Club volunteers gathered on the field after a long day at work and spent a few hours measuring, marking, laying out the huge Bearcat template, and of course discussing BEARCAT football.  They look forward to this day each year because they know a home game is near and that means Friday night football is back!

Thank you for the many hours of hard work all year long raising money for much needed items for the Dexter students.  The Booster Club will be selling t-shirts, flags, and other Bearcat items at their building under the bleachers next to the concession stands on Friday home games.

On November 21, 1994, after hours of planning, a group of school enthusiasts - some of the most dedicated members of Bearcat Nation - arrived at a Dexter Public Schools board meeting seeking to shine a positive light on the hope of the formation of an “Activities Booster Club”. Clubs of this nature had been resisted by the school administration for many years due to noted bad experiences in other communities.

The original organizing group included:

Other original Dexter Booster Club Members include Dr. Jerry Waddle, Debbie Snider, Joni Burleson, Jim Reiker, Phyllis Howard, Doug Cox, Sharon Guethle, Mark Becker and Bruce Christian.

The tradition continues and this year Travis Miller is the President, Jim Murdock is Vice-President, Dana Adams is Treasurer, Stacy Blocker is Secretary.  Other board members are Candy Miller, Kristi Boles, Kristi Strong, Jason Mattison, Jim Aldridge, Marrianne Bruce and Tracy Hedrick.

If you see any of these folks out in town, please shake their hand and tell them thank you for their efforts to continue a wonderful tradition in our town.  We appreciate all their work and endless number of hours of volunteering to keep our BEARCAT NATION STRONG!
