Bloomfield, Missouri -  With the Fourth of July just around the corner, the Bloomfield Firefighters Association is on a quest to raise money for the annual fireworks display to be held on July 4th.  You may have even caught a glimpse of a few flyers around town.

The BFA was established in 2012 as a non-profit organization to support the Bloomfield firefighters and their cause.  The annual fireworks display is funded entirely through private donations.

Brooke Smith is the secretary/Treasurer of the Bloomfield Firefighters Association and stated that last year’s fireworks display cost approximately $4,000.  The goal this year is to collect at least $3,000.

Donations can be made in any amount and are tax deductible.  A receipt is also available upon request.  Make checks payable to Bloomfield Firefighters Association and send to BLFA, 21681 County Road 510, Bloomfield, MO 63825.

Anyone who is interested in making a donation may also contact Brooke Smith at 820-7841 or Randall McCollum at 820-1640.

“With your donation and dedication to our community, we can continue this family-oriented celebration of our country’s independence the way our forefathers intended.”

Making Lemonade For Moore, OK Tornado Victims

Dexter, Missouri - Jade who is 12 years old along with her siblings, Kylee, age 7 and Jackson, age 5 are from Moore, Oklahoma.  They are the children of Mike and Jennifer Huffman.

They missed both tornadoes by less than a mile, but many of their friends lost everything.  They recently traveled to Dexter to visit their grandma and grandpa, Jack and Betty Huffman and stayed for about a week.  They asked if they could raise some money for a family that has been adopted by their family and friends, local churches and others in the Dexter area.

Their Nana, Mrs. Betty Huffman, graciously helped them with their Lemonade Stand in front of the First Midwest Bank while on their visit to Dexter.  Kyle, Jade and Jackson raised $280.  Now that’s a lot of lemonade!

Betty along with many friends and family have worked hard collecting over $3,000.   She has a special fund set up for teachers who lost all their school supplies.  A little over $600 has been raised locally for those two elementary schools that were completely demolished.

Betty and her grandchildren personally delivered the money raised to the family in Oklahoma last week.

She said, “We appreciate every penny that has been collected and will continue to collect on their behalf.  Thank you.”

If you are interested in donating to the Adopted Family, please contact Betty Huffman 573-624-3667.

Betty stated that the woman was speechless that a community so far away would take the time to send help.  She was overwhelmed with tears and so very thankful.
